I was thinking about going to school in BC does anyone know of university's that have mountains really close by?

UBC. Grouse seymour and Cypress are all close. Whistler is only an hour and a half drive with tons of ride options

Personally, I've always found it take 45-hour to seymour, and at least 2 hours to whistler from campus

There's also Thompson Rivers in Kamloops. Sun Peaks just up the road and Revelstoke is about a 3 hour drive give or take. Not the best option, but it might still be an option?

UBCO is an awesome choice, so much is close by, big white, revelstoke, rogers pass etc. Whats really cool is the school is pretty small, you can get to know your teachers and you get UBC's reputation on your degree. Also lots of really awesome people here

It depends how fast you drive. We tend to leave around 10/11pm at night and almost always get from Dunbar to Whistler Village in under 1.5hr. That said once there's traffic I'd agree that 2hrs is more reasonable.

UBCO

has bigwhite and silverstar near by which are both fucking sick, apex is close, revelstoke is only like 2.5-3hours away and thats some world class skiing. ubco campus is tight too, and there is a bus that goes to ubco and takes you right to big white.

Id say UBCO, thats where im going when i grad
that being said if you dont like it you can always transfer to the bigger UBC in vancouver

I have a few friends at TRU and they hate it. Kamloops is a godawful place to live IMO. Sun Peaks is a fun resort though.

UBC is where it's at though.

It's definitely not easy to transfer, but possible, I went to UBCO last year and am now at UBC, which is definitely better, more people, more parties, it's a true campus and university, ubco is kind of like highschool still. The only advantage, is UBCO is definitely easier

UBC, obviously. Big white isn't great. It was foggy a lot of the time, layout isn't great (4 pack and six pack right next to eachother, WTF?!), park crew will rake the same lip for hours, and it isn't even that close to kelowna/campus.

Whistler is definitely 100x better than big white, and the fact you can take public transit to grouse is a definite plus.

Call me a hater, but big white fuckin' sucks

Just did it today, do it twice a week usually.

Two transfers, usually about just over an hour there, bit more coming home because the transfers never line up very well.

Worse trip was my first. Took 3 hours to get home but that was because I took the seabus which is way slower than the bus over the lions gate.

Silver Star is better any ways and according to Goggle Maps the drive is only 5min longer from UBCO to the hill. One of the best jump lines in the province imo.

Wait, has there always been a bus over the Lions Gate? We always used to go seabus, I thought that was the only way (other than phibbs exchange/east van).

UBC or SFU.

UBC is a much better school, it's not far from the local mountain i.e grousse, cypruss, seymore. It's only about an hour and a half up to whistler on the sea to sky which is also a dope road to drive on.

UBC also has a sweet ski and board club which is inexpensive to join 10$ i think and then you get to be a member of their ride share page as well as get some great deals on some lift tickets.

@guy who asked about transit

You can take the 246 highland across the lions gate from downtown and then transfer to the 236 up further in N van.

Also if you go between 3-6pm, there's a 247 leaving from downtown that ends at grouse (which is sweet)

Grouse people hit me up to ride/I'm the big dude in the green pants

Apologies if this offends anyone who goes to TRU, but there are a list of schools I'd go to in BC for both academics and skiing in bc before there. Sun Peaks' park is decent but the rest of the mountain is pretty meh. And not overly close to the rest of the good skiing the interior has to offer.
