HELP! Ski selection-All mountain twin

Hey guys, please excuse me if this is in the wrong location! Anyways, I'm looking to get a pair of twin tips this year. I plan to be in the park doing jumps and boxes, as well as skiing the groomers. Basically, I need help in deciding which to get. I've looked at the Armada El Reys and THalls, the Salomon Suspects, and others. I just want to make sure I get the best ski for what I want to do. Also, I need to know what size to get. I'm 6'1" and 190 lbs. For bindings I have looked at the Marker Free Tens and Squires, as well as the Head Mojo 12's. Please let me know what you guys think, and thanks for your help! Also, this will be my first pair of twin tips, so I would like them to be good on as much of the mountain as possible.

Armada t hall in 181 or 176 if you like them a little shorter. Don't get the free 10's. I think someone of your size would do better with the Mojos or the Squires. If I were you I'd go with the Squires The T Halls are little bit softer ski so if you want a stiff ski don't gt them. The El Rey's are super stiff if thats what you like

Apologize for the double post, I couldn't find the edit button to add to my last post. Do the THalls handle well on groomers? If they do I would get them in a heartbeat, I really like the Armada gear that I have right now. I've heard that the squires aren't that good of a binding, is that true? Or is it just some bashing because it's cheaper?

The T Halls should handle pretty well because they're full camber. I think the Squires are alright, but they are not cheap at all. They are about $70 more than the Head Mojo 12s. My personal preference would be the Squires for sure though.

Okay, thanks for the reply. I didn't have the values for the bindings pulled up when I wrote the post, so I just assumed the squires were less. Glad to see my first instinct was right in going with the THalls and squires. Started to read too many threads and second guessed myself, haha.

ar7 would handle groomers better. They're also cheaper, and i would step it up to the griffons if i was you.

go a little fatter if you want a better all mountain ski. alpha x are so sick, just skiied them for the first time..line chronics are good too

AR7's (even last year's version) and the alpha x are out of my price point that I'm comfortable with. Really I'm looking to keep the skis under 400. I can get 2013 THalls in 176 for ~385. Are there any other skis that would be better suited to all mountain as well besides the AR7 and the Alpha X that are around the same price as the THalls? I skied Volkl P60s for a long time, before I got into park stuff. For that I used my friend's old Salomon 1080s. In all reality, I'm looking for something that can carve up the groomers well and handle speed, but still be good for boxes and rails in the park. I don't need the skis to excel at one or the other. Thanks for the help so far! Also, why do you recommend going to the griffons?

Oh didnt realize. thalls are usually like 50 dollars more than ar7. I think thalls would work fine for you. They're the same dimensions as ar7 just softer.

Well the reason for the thalls being cheaper is that I'm getting last years model, and the ar7's are the most recent. Otherwise they'd be similar. For bindings, should I get the squires or the mojo 12's?

So the 176 THalls sold out at the site that I want to order from. Being 6'1" and 190 lbs would the 171's be alright or not? I have been skiing for 12 years, and the skis I end up getting will be my first twin tip. I am just unsure on how to size them compared to all mountain skis. Thanks in advance.

In my opinion 171 is way to small for you. I ride 169 at 5'10" 145lbs, but I wish I had longer skis

Kinda what I was thinking too, but I wasn't sure if the 5cm less meant that much. Do the shorter skis tend to get wobbly at high speeds? Or what else happens?

I would recommend mid 170s, but it depends on what types of skiing you'll be doing. If you'll be doing any off-piste you'll probably want to go a bit longer. I'm about 6' and pretty light, my all mountain twins are 169 and my rockers are 179. The advantages of a longer ski are that it will be faster, more powerful, and more stable. The advantages of a shorter ski are that it will be more agile and easier to control. A 171 is plenty long enough for high speeds so you won't have to worry about that, but stability also plays into landing drops (be it a jump or a cliff), so if you'll be doing lots of big jumps and/or cliffs you'll want to go a bit longer. I don't ski park at all but I would assume that if you're doing primarily boxes, rails, and small jumps you'd want something on the short end (low 170s). If you're doing a lot of big jumps and some off-piste I'd go high 170s or maybe low 180s if you won't be doing many boxes/rails/etc. If you'll be doing a lot of off-piste, I'd go with low-mid 180s, assuming you're an advanced-expert skier.

171's are way too short for someone 6'1" and 190lbs.

If you are just hitting rails/boxes/jibs and small jumps, 176-179cm would be the shortest I would recommend.

However, if you are a strong skier, or hit larger features, you should really be on something around 181-186cm. You've been skiing 12 years, you probably know how to make a turn; I wouldn't go less than 181cm for a park ski.

I'm 6'2" and 185lbs myself, and I don't ride anything less than 186cm.

I was in your position not long ago getting my first twins aswell. I got mine for the park and all mountain too. I personally don't think it matters too much when you are getting your first twins.

I went for something with a 90mm waist and tips are around 116mm. Handles good in the park and everywhere else. Not bad in powder too.

As for bindings I wouldn't get anything but Pivots or FKS. Had too many bad experiences with shitty plastic bindings. hope that help bro

Thanks guys for the answers, really appreciate it. Seems to be some conflicting answers about ski length though, so still kind of unsure on what to do on that front. I'm looking at the 4FRNT deadbolts for bindings now, found them pretty cheap. Anyone have experience with those? If it helps at all, I've been skiing Volkl P60s for a long time, and would ride my friend's twins from time to time. Since the THalls are out of stock in the length I want, does anyone else have any other recommendations? I'd like to keep the ski price under 400, and I'd like to order from The House Boardshop (mainly because I've ordered from them before, and have always had a good experience).

rossi scratch 2013 are $350 dollars and 181cm. I heard they were pretty good. Not to soft or stiff.

I like those, so now it's between those and K2 revivals. I decided to get the squires, as the deadbolts went out of stock too. Thanks so much for the help everybody, I really appreciate all the input!

Either would be good, but I don't really like zero camber skis like the revivals. If you like that, they might be better because they are a bit beefier for all mountain.

In all reality, I haven't really ever worried about if my ski is cambered or rockered. So I don't think it will be a main issue for me. Is there that much difference? If the revivals are better (or like you said beefier) for all mountain, those would make the most sense for me then. How do people feel about the K2 Press?

K2 press are more of a price point ski, but they can work good for some people.

Some people (myself included) think that zero camber feels dull and doesn't have much pop; however, rocker will help in softer snow, and they will be less catchy on rails.

By "beefier," i meant that they are thicker under foot which will help in powder.

They will both carve. Revivals might feel less snappy in the turns because they lack camber.

Buy the thalls in a 176 or 181, and don't buy the squire, they are no where near as durable as many other bindings at the same price. Buy Salomon STH 12 drivers, STH2 13, marker griffon, or Rossi axial2 120/look Px 12.

Okay, I think the revivals would be the best for me then as they sound like they're able to do everything I want. I found a package with revivals and griffon schizos for 600, so I think that's what I'm going for. To answer AJizzle, I would but they're out of stock ): Thanks for the help guys, any other opinions?

disorderlys are female skis and domains aren't very good all mountain because they are too soft

Really? The disorderlys are female skis? Weird. So that would mean that the disorderlys aren't as good on all mountain then, because the domains were based off the disorderlys, correct?

dude im sorry, i must have been thinking of some other skis. The disorderlys arent female skis, but i dont know anything about disorderlys. The domains arent supposed to be good all mountain though.

No problem man. I did end up deciding on the Disorderly, mainly because the reviews I read all agreed that they were good skis. I like that they're fully symmetrical too. If they're not as good all mountain, that's not a huge deal to me, as I have other skis I could use if I end up not liking them at all for all mountain. I will be using Marker Griffons with them, and getting them center mounted. Thanks for the help!
