Skier for life, stuck in Florida

I was raised in New Hampshire, skied everyday that there was snow on the ground. After college I took a job that would benifit my career long term in Florida and I have been here for 2 years now. Cant stand it here. I still want to live in a city because I work in urban education, what cities should I move to so I can still teach and ski?

In a lot of cases, not so stupid. He can then save up quite a bit and get a nice house in a good location and ski whenever the fuck he wants in the future.

thats a matter of personal preference not stupidity. and to answer op's question, salt lake, portland, and seattle are all major cities that are pretty close to good places to ski.

People usually don't stay at one job their entire lives. If I were him I'd look for my next job near mountains. I, personally, would rather have the money for lots of food and gear and traveling than to have shitty gear and go to crappy mountains due to income.

But what do I know. I'm probably retarded.

Thank you!

I clearly didnt take money over skiing becoming a teacher in an urban school. I just wanted to make a real impact on students that needed it. Im ready to go somewhere else and have skiing be an integral part of my life like it was before

Seattle looks like a cool city, something different and its relatively close to Baker and Rainier.

Im really looking for anything on the west coast.

But anyway, thanks for the input!

Salt lake or maybe Sacramento

Both are a drive from any real hill but you can day trip to some kick ass resorts.

anchorage definitely has its share of low-income underpriveliged children to teach. And we pay our teachers more in AK than elsewhere. Also the anchorage school district, while far from great or even good, is less shitty than most public school systems. Alyeska is close but sucks balls. Turnagain and hatcher pass are where you want to go. Teach at Bartlett, East, or West HS and buy a sled.

Just curios, why does Alyeska suck?

SLC is really close to amazing skiing. However, I have to say that Utah is a strange place. Strange people.
Alta has a weird vibe to it. But has amazing terrain and snow.

go make mega bucks on some reservation helping lil' indian kids, I'm sure there are some in montana or alaska near skiing. It's not a city but poor urban kids already have way more opportunities than kids living in the middle of no where.

Sacramento is actually a really good option. Back in the day my mom was an administrator for Sac unified School District and damn do they need help. Its a short two hour drive to Tahoe and surprisingly a fun and active town. A strong skiing community with urban schools (ghetto as shit) that need all the help they can get. Big vibes your way. The world needs more people out there looking to make a difference. Good luck in your search.

completely disregard that comment, Alyeska is easily one of the top 10 resorts in North America. Now Alyeska's terrain park is terrible, but who cares when you have some of the best in-bound terrain in the country.

i guess what i mean to say is that alyeska sucks compared to what it could be. Yes the north face is great, but the amount of other terrain that ski patrol often could open such as headwall, chutes above glacier bowl, money's, or max's chute is so huge. I understand that the avy conditions are often not great, but ski patrol regularly skis closed runs and then deems them 'not safe' for the public.

in addition to that, one of the tanakas is banned from alyeska...not legit.

Also when you could instead ride turnagain or hatcher's, why would you ever ride alyeska?

Or he could move to a city and work while skiing...  Seriously, the likelihood that you can just 'save up' and just move somewhere to live out the rest of your days is very low.  Might as well work and play in the same place.
