no pics as i don't ride with a phone but my father was shuttling me at the time and if you were to find the warden i sure he'd be able to tell you haha. i was coming off a berm and darting back into the trees and he was up on the side of the road but i had my full face on and apparently he was yelling for me to stop but i couldn't hear him. (they had a bear sighting on the trail) anyways as i rounded the berm and got about 5 feet back into the brush theres a mother bear right in the middle of the trail… not having time to stop i slam into her back leg and i am launched over my bars into some small bushes and her cubs were in there looking for berries and as i came down on my back i landed on one of the cubs and apparently crushed it to death. when the mother bear turned around it got on its hind legs and started coming towards me but the warden had noticed and got out his shotgun and shot it off which scared her off.
the second time i was in fernie at a race and i was just coming down to get my plate and had met a old friend on the lift who was training some new girls and so we just darted down a green trail. me and this mike guy were about 3 switch backs ahead of the rest of the group and as we rounded the berm there was a black bear he couldn't stop and hit the bear in the behind and ended up going over his bars and landing a bit down the trail. upon seeing this i tried to swerve out of the way but by that time the bear had turned to see if what was going on and i washed out trying to turn so sharply and avoid it. my pedals (had clip ins) hit it in the mouth and tore a bit of its lip off. anyways i skidded to the side of the trail and was trying to get my feet out of the pedals and the bear had no turned and was charging at me… luckily it was raining out that day and the rest of our group who was behind us was finally catching up, as they rounded the turn a few of the girls hit their brakes to slow down and when disk brakes are wet the tend to squeal. anyways it was enough to spook the bear into the bushes with its cubs
the third time i was at moose mountain and a grizzly bear was crossing the race of spades trail, anyways i rounded the corner about to hit a drop and out of the corner of my eye i see a bear coming out of the trees. trying to slow down i skidded into the mid section of the bear and knocked it back a bit. i fall to the side and was thinking should i lye here or run? knowing that bears can pretty much outrun anything i curled up in a ball preparing to be mauled to death. my friend rounded the corner and seen what was going on and lucky we carry bear spray in our hydro packs and he quickly got it out and used it.
so yeah, i consider myself kinda lucky to be alive because most people don't get that close to pissed off bears and live three separate times. nowadays I'm not a huge fan of bears
