Thoughts on Eldora?

For the spring I have Tuesdays and Thursdays totally open expect for class starting at starting at 5pm. To maximize my skiing I'm considering going to Eldora those days. So I'm wondering, how is the skiing at Eldora? Is the terrain very steep at all in the "Corona bowl"? How is the terrain park?

Would I be better off driving the extra 45min to Abay or Key?

all corona bowl offers is a few glade turns then you're done. It is steeper than the rest of the "double blacks" at eldora (I'm looking at you jolly jug glades, the mellowest double black on the planet) so there's that. Personally I'd rather ski the terrain at even keystone before eldora (which is saying something), but I do ski eldora once a year with the folks these days and it's still fun to see something new. I just would never waste money on a pass there.

I can't speak for the park as I never check theirs out but I have never heard great things..

I figure if I go to Abay I would have to start driving back by 3 or 3:30 to make it to my class. If I go to Eldora I can leave as late as 4 - 4:20. Is that extra hour worth it?

I realize I'm pretty much just thinking out loud but yea. Opinions are appreciated.

well ski areas close at 4.. if you're skiing since the early morning you probably won't need to ski all the way until 4. 3-3:30 sounds fine to me.

Sorry, i should have been more clear. I meant to ask if you had a ski pass to Vail resorts mountains (abay, key, breck etc.. If your skiing for free I would deff. drive the little extra to Abay or Keystone.

for me.. an all day through and through eldora sesh just does not happen. the runs are super short and the lifts are generally really slow. i like eldora more for finishing classes at 12 and still being able to catch a couple runs.

as far as i remember, the terrain park is usually very limited. last year i think all they had was a couple little boxes at the base of the main run. corrections if i am wrong?

They have a jump every now and then, but only 1 and it's usually 20ft at the most. but most of the time their park crew doesn't even mess with it because hardly anyone comes there for park as it is.

i was talking to some people about this. if eldora added night skiing and built up their park, they would start making bank. so many people from boulder, fort collins, denver, etc would start going there weeknights to shred some park instead of driving all the way to summit

the situation is i am pretty sure eldora is making bank! the prices they charge for a season pass is out of hand! ($399 for an adult i believe!). i purchased the ABasin/Keystone pass this year for $289. i am sorry but those two mountains completely outweigh the concept of "not driving 70". also, i understand they have a college pass but they imposed an age limit of 25 on it for this season.. seriously? it is never busy during the week did they really need to alienate the "over 25" college crew?

i apologize for the sourness. i just think eldora needs to get off their ass and stop riding the "friends don't let friends drive 70" schtick. add a high speed lift! make a slightly longer park! anything!

my $0.2.. best thing about eldora now is getting wings at wild mountain smokehouse afterward!

eldora pros: usually not to packed, decent tree skiing, quick and convenient (you can take the bus up if you live in boulder) fun to go there and just fuck around
cons: windy as shit, can be icy as shit, usually a shitty park (they dont have one yet this year) expensive food and tickets, and it can be cold.
i dont mind eldora at all, cuz you can go up, have a mellow day, and you dont have to worry about a long drive home. occasionally theres good snow. hell, yesterday i found some knee deep stuff in untouched trees between two runs. overall: is it worth it to go there? sure. but if you can get to abay, and dont have to pay, then do it
