ive been threatened by security with vandalism charges, which is bullshit unless youre cutting the rail up at all. scratiching the top of a railing is not really vandalism but whatever
or trespassing i guess you could be pinned with if you were on private property. ive never heard of anyone actually getting charged though, they just want you to leave so you dont hurt yourself and sue them or something
well all urban is on someone else's property, unless you or a friend owns it. Hitting rails is almost always illegal because you are either trespassing or destroying the property.
The key is to do it in the least intrusive manner so you don't get caught and you don't ruin the owner's stuff.
its probably the city that owns most of the rails, so its every ones property. At least here it is. I've never heard of anyone officially getting fined for hitting urban, or the police showing up to end the sesh. Its allways some grumpy lady, and the polite people we are, we leave. Dont know how its there, but i've heard pretty fucked up things.
Pretty much this, I haven't hit a ton of urban or anything, but it seems to me that if you stick to public property (stuff owned by the city), don't hit nice stuff, and are just generally polite, you won't get into trouble.
Private property is generally not a good idea if you don't want to annoy people/police, few property owners will be down with that if they catch you due to liability issues.
Most times I attempt to hit urban I get shut down by police because they don't want us getting hurt and pressing charges against the city, university, property owner etc. They are worried about us getting hurt mostly.
I have been asked to repaint a hand rail before as well.
Also not just that but if you hurt someone (ie: land on them, or dent their car) while skiing on their property, that third party could sue the organization the property belongs to for neglegence since they did not stop you from doing what caused their harm.
trespassing, destruction of property, and vandalism charges are really the only ones you have a chance of. Be respectful, apologize and leave when asked to.
If a property owner were to knowingly allow you to hit their rail or whatever they become liable for your injuries. I used to skate and would get that line pretty regularly.
Theres no law against skiing but they could get you for defacing public property or causing a disturbance but most of the time, unless the cop is a dick, they just want you to stop so you dont hurt yourself and other than that dont really give a damn what you do
First night me and some buds seshed urban this year one rolled up and told us we were freaking out a concerned school teacher and first question was "have you boys being doing any drugs tonight?"
That's a good question. I'm not 100% sure, but it could still be trespassing. Maybe reckless endangerment if other people are around the area. It could get you willful violation too, but that is only if there are signs posted.
Other than tresspassing, missuse of private/public property; you must also think about public endangerment. I know it sounds crazy, but some town are pretty crowded and the risk of hitting someone is pretty high. Plus, if you hurt that person, you will have to think about getting a lawer.
