Dakine Sequence Bag - Thoughts?

Hey guys, so I'm trying to do my best for replacing gear. Does anyone know anything about this bag? I'm not about to put out the dosh on an Fstop rig, so don't even fucking tell me to (seriously, Fstop is the camera bag version of 'get fulltilts') but I want something that's going to be useable for most of the same thing (though, obviously not for multi-day BC trips)

Anyone have this bag/have anything to say about this bag?

I had one. It's OK. I sold it to buy an F-Stop.

for a day trip it's fine. I have it and it fits two bodies, and 3-4 lenses, and some audio equipment. The laptop sleeve is alright, but if you're going to pack the bag full, it might be a bit of a squish to get a laptop in there as well. I have no complaints, the back straps allow you to put a tripod on your back, although the straps could have been set up a little better IMO.

worth the money, no problem with any buckles or anything breaking and I've had it for -2 yearsish

Pretty much this exactly. I have one and its ok. I'm trying to save for a different bag to be honest though. The pack feels surprising ok on your shoulders for how boxy it is too. If you are on a budget, this will get the job done.

I still have mine actually. I use it on occasion to take beers to partys...the insert is great for holding cans up to an 18 rack. But in all seriousness it is a great bag. I have had a lot of shit in and have done some day trips as well. I have since upgraded to a larger dakine bag because I generally travel with my t2i as well as my hvx. However if you are looking to do day hikes/skins it would be a great bag for a dslr setup as long as you have touring bindings. Id imagine you could get a few lens' in there as well as a few bodies if need be. Decent bag for the price.

I have a burton focus, which i like better than my friend's sequence that I've use a fair amount.
It is a little bigger and boxier than the sequence, but i like the extra top compartment and the camera insert better.
The sequence doesn't come with very many dividers, which kind of sucks.
The burton has a nicer, softer camera block with more dividers, as well as a big extra pocket above the camera block. The top pocket is great for misc items or snacks and layers. It can fit A TON of stuff, when I'm traveling I can fit all of my gear (other than my strobe) including hard drives etc.

This winter I fit in the camera block:
2 bodies
3-4 lenses (including 70-200)
2 speedlights and a bunch of triggers
and that still leaves a ton of room in the top pocket. You could swap the speedlights into the top and fit more lenses, too.

I also have the focus and i fucking LOVE it. It amazes me every time just how much shit I can fit in the top pocket. In my camera block I generally pack: 1 7d body, 1 film body, 70-200, 3 other lenses, gopro and misc shit (external hd, cords and chargers, etc), extra film/batteries and a flash. and that is sparing some room, i could probably easily pack another lens.

in the top pocket I can usually fit a pair of jeans, 3 t-shirts, and enough socks and underwear for a 4-5 day trip.

plus the exterior laptop compartment is the tits for airport security.

Damn.

I might have to get a focus. I hate how expensive photo pack are, even though it makes sense. The F-stops looks sweet up are very pricey. I ended up going cheap on some shitty photo pack but other than being a good place to organize gear sitting around in my house it is worthless. I always ended up just wrapping gear in sweatshirts, and putting it in another bag, when every I go out.

F:Stop isn't the equivalent of "get Full Tilts" because unlike Full Tilt, F:Stop is objectively superior for any and all outdoor circumstances. Any backpack that doesn't accommodate a large space for non-camera gear is useless.

But I know you aren't trying to step foot into the backcountry, in which case I cannot recommend the Tamrac Expedition series enough. Super burly build, unlike Dakine's camera bags...

The bag gets the job done, but there are so many things that could be better about it. I feel as though it doesn't utilize its space properly and doesn't have that many pockets that are easily accessible. No good spot to put filters and anything else that is bigger. You would never find a spot to put a follow focus or a anything like that. Lap top sleeve isn't padded very well. and that whole front pocket is annoying to get into because the side straps cover the zipper. (such an annoying design.) So you have to undo the buckles if you want to get into that pocket. Also the top pocket is really intruded by the overly thick camera insert.

All in all, it gets the job done. But I will be upgrading soon. Hope that helps.

owning both a sequence and loka, the sequence is made no better then any other dakine pack, is uncomfortable to wear with a lot of gear in it, and really just can't compete. i think there are better alternatives out there if you dont wanna spend the $$$ on an fstop, but honestly it's worth it, you are going to have to replace a dakine a lot faster then the fstop.

Fair enough, but they're still way out of most people's investment range as far as a pack - and probably more than a lot of people actually need (in my case, if I'm going to the backcountry, I'd just take a camera block and throw it into my actual backpacking backpack that I've h2oProofed and use that for now)

As far as the Tamrac Expedition, I've looked into it. It looks nice and all but I dislike the front opening. I kinda like the idea of the bag opening from the backplate like on the fstop bags and on the Sequence. Any reason for me NOT to like/prefer this setup?

Back-access packs are nice because you can just throw the back onto the snow with the flap facing you without having to turn it over. It is a luxury, but not a necessity. I'd much rather take something bombproof like a Tamrac without the back-access flap over having that small luxury at the cost of using an uncomfortable, cheaply made pack that I can't rely on (Dakine).

Well you should just do that anyway then. Like someone above said, the Sequence is just an old Dakine pack (the Ridge I think it was called) with a camera block, and it doesn't even integrate that well. Buy a good pack around 40L preferably with backpanel access and throw a camera block in there.

It would be terribly unnecessary and downright goofy as shit to take my Gregory pack out for day-shoots. I would only utilize it in such a case if I were going to spend 3-4 days in straight up wilderness backcountry.
