Made a backcountry stepdown today in a top-secret location. It was maybe 20 feet to the kunckle with about a 10 foot drop. from takeoff to landing. fun stuff.

I knew it was bad, but i didn't know it was going to be THAT BAD. I had some friends from school who were taking a day trip over there and they wanted me to come with so I just thought "whatever, what's the worst that could happen."

turns out the worst that could happen is welch village, a nice $50 lift ticket, a small hill packed with gapers, and just a shitty experience. but there was a big side hit on the run chicken that actually could boost you like crazy if you hit it fast enough, otherwise no jumps.

talked to a worker about the park and the worker told me "we don't like to have a terrain park here because that's where most of the injuries on the hill come from. and the rails have a sticky surface because of the blowing snow, it sticks to the rails and makes them sticky."

the level of ignorance blew my mind

Only good thing about Welch Village is the random natural features on the side of some the runs, otherwise its easily the worst hill in the area

It's a priority of mine to keep this thread alive. I got my first 7 a few days ago and landed on one ski but still rode away (still counts... right?). I'm going up nort to giants ridge this weekend where it should be march-like conditions and I'm hoping to get tail 7s on lock and maybe even get a 9 around. If conditions suck for jumping, then mountain bike trail cruising and rails.

Forgot to look around for some reason on a 3 on a big jump... got wrecked. Also tried out some sw 2s on and dub ejected. Tried a 5 first hit after lunch and landed about 450 and ate it. Had a fun weekend but ate a lot of shit.

How does Mount Du Lac's jump line compare to Spirit's? Never been to Du Lac, in a few pictures one of the jumps looks decent. All 4 of Spirit's are nice, has anyone been to both?

Neither have I... haha just made it up by combining super (4 out) with bfed. Just like how back up back 2 is Ray Charles, and front up front 2 is an Ellen. Trick names are designed to humorously describe them. Superbfed is describing how dope a back swap continuing 4 looks (which it looks fricken amazing), props to anyone who does them!

It can be a Ray Charles or Hellen Keller, a Hellen Keller is more appropriate if you are listening to music and you can't hear anything going on on the hill.

Just got back from buck. Was mostly closed because of high wind. 3rd run, the wind took me off the 2nd jump to the big air dave zone. Hurt pain.

Haha. I was having trouble committing at first too but it helped to think of it as a big 180 with a little sliding in the middle. (I was doing it to switch) Now, if you're talking about doing it to forward... that's sketch. You're barely on the rail at all so it's hard to grip it and turn back to forward.

Had a sassy trick competition with a buddy of mine. Any trick counts- only if your hands are on your hips the whole time. Somehow I got a front 4 off pencil while keeping my hands on my hips and landed with what I like to call "sassterbang"

Sorry about dub post, and sorry for making my posts sound like bedtime stories but I must keep this thread alive.... Pencil at hyland is known as one of the nicest, most consistent, trickable rails in the Midwest. Today it got closed off for 30 minutes for Sunday funday comp grooming. High winds with blowing snow means that that rail went from slick to stick in no time. I was the first to hit it after it reopened and I completely forgot about the fact it could be sticky. Hit it pretty fast, front edge caught just like dom laporte at SJO, I tacoed and slid the rail on my back, then slid down the hill in agony. Most gnarly crash out of nowhere I've had this season.

School was out, hyland closed, so i hit a handrail I had been fantasizing about for awhile. It was about -20° but such a good time, rails were slick and it had a natural inrun so we had hot laps for days. There was this 65 year old xc skier who was passing by and he stopped to watch us, he was stoked! It was probably the best day I've had this season. Click for larger image

U betcha! There's about 300 different options for the set of rails. I'm dedicated to hit it every weekend and hit it differently each time. Parking is a bitch, but it's an perfect spot.

Does anyone here know what portion of Spirit Mountain's park is being used for the Midwest Freestyle Association slopestyle and big air comps tomorrow? I was going to head up there to ski their park but if it's limited I think I'll give Afton a go. Need some info from those in the know.

It's usually the big jump line and a couple rails that follow the jump line, showtime is always the big air jump. But the park is usually opened up around 2-3pm, maybe earlier, I don't know too much about it. I'd save spirit for next weekend, it'll be crowded but the park will be completely open.

To contribute to the nature of this thread. Got a rodeo 5 with a bow and arrow grab off hyland super the other week. Never done it with that grab before.
