I have a speech this friday on a policy change. That means I can do a speech on changing a old dumb law or creating a new law. For example I could do changing the drinking age in the U.S. to 18 or legalizing weed.
so the question is.... if you could create or change any law what would you do?
There's a nice little tag on to the military spending bill, that'll be easy to make an argument against. Its states along the lines of, anyone suspected of being a terrorist or of aiding in terrorist activities can be held indiffently without charges or a trial.
drinking in public. If I am drinking in public and 'causing a scene' I can get charged with:
Vandalism, trespassing, mischief, disturbing the peace, etc... the simple act of drinking a beer while walking from point a to b doesn't hurt society in any way, shape, or form. There is no point to that stupid law.
*disclaimer* I don't smoke weed. I mean I have plenty of times, but it's less than 5 times a year total at this point.
With that said, I would make weed legal. It's absurd how much money is wasted on a plant that makes people peaceful. I would make weed legal, and I would greatly increase the penalties for alcohol related crimes and charges. Alcohol causes so much damage and I think the penalties for it need to be way harsher for actual change to be effected.
precisely my point I saw something in the paper today about a family suffering from some new food stamp cuts, here they are. ridiculous, they are all obese.
Get rid of the majority of the patriot act, reform drug laws, change the 1968 gun control act, get rid of the hughes amendment, drinking age vs. selective service. Pick something you care about (preferably not weed) and do that, if you actually are interested in it, then it should seem fun and easy.
It´s ridiculous how much worse the drinking habits of american teens compared to europeans are, especially with drinking and driving it would be pretty easy to show how a lower legal drinking age influences more responsible drinking behavior.
The FCC deregulation that happened during the Clinton administration, allowing a grand total of 6 corporations to control almost all of t.v. and the radio.
nah, I like natural selection and retarded teens who think the they are the shit almost ruin their lives in a DUI accident then don't learn and have it happen again and again until thy kill themselves
Not defending them in any way, but people who have very low income are often obese because of the quality of food they can afford. If you had 15 dollars a day to feed a family of four, you wont be buying heads of lettuce and fruit and whole foods, because its expensive to eat healthy and easier just to pick stuff up from Mcds. Rather, you could buy 10 McDoubles and some Nuggets and keep everyone full on a budget. Thats probably why they're obese.
I think the western world's child birth rate isn't as bad, compared to the 40s-60s obviously. But it's the east where they're breeding like fuckin rabbits, and then bringing their families over here to the west
