help me w/ski related homework

i have a physics project and i need to find the initial velocity (horizontal and vertical), final velocity (horizontal and vertical), the time, and the distance traveled. so if anybody could find this and maybe a pic (one w/multiple frames of a person in a jump), that would be good. it can be a park jump or one of those really long jumps. if you could look around, that would be great.

Here I'll bull shit for you. For initial velocity do like 35 mph on a 25 degree pitch, I don't know what the horizontal and vertical velocitys would be and it has been too long since I have done physics so I don't feel like finding out but if I remember right it is pretty simple. So ya 35 for initial, maybe like 3-4 seconds from right before he hits the tranny of the jump to the landing. I would just throw out a distance of like 45-55 feet from the tranny to the landing, and I donno maybe 25 mph on a 35 degree pitch for the landing.
I don't know if that helped you much but I figured I'd try. And for a pic just look on Freeze or Freeskier for a sequence of a 40-50 footer, I am sure there are plenty.

uh... vector quantity? we havent done angles yet, just need enough for V v T graphs and D v T graphs (vertical and horizontal). btw, thanks to whoever just put abunch of that stuff up there. i can make up a distance or a time in the air. thanks! does anybody know how to convert mph into m/s?

mph to meters per second. First you would divide by 360. Then you would multiply by 5280(ft in a mile) and then divide by 3.6 or something(however many feet a meter equals.
I am nto sure if that is right since it has been over a year since I have done it and can't rememebr it off the top of my head.

I did a physics assignment that we had to figure how much snow we melted on the way down, and a whole bunch of other crap, but that was the only interesting thing I remembered

You would not be able to do it, unless you were present or the following info was given to you:

-avg angle of slope
-coeffecient of friction
-mass of skier plus clothes and gear
-wind resistance
-naturl wind direction

and a bunch of other shit, unless you want to neglect these, but these are actually HUGE factors in determining this.

Then you need the formulas for finding all of these. A good hour of calculating, even if the info was just given to you/

are you talking about skiing on the slope or flying through the air? It sounds like you want to keep it simple. Things like wind resistance are often left out for simplicity and you can still get a reasonable %error. for skiing on a slope, google shit like 'friction equations', make some assupmtions and work it out. For flying through the air, look for 'projectile motion equations' etc.
