I don't know if this has already been posted but i want to hear your opinions on whether or not it should be permitted by law. i won't think your gay if you are for it.

In my opinion, it is wrong. That is coming from a very, very religious standpoint. i believe that it is just another step towards the destruction of this nation. I believe that people have homosexual feelings naturally, but that doesn't change the fact that it is wrong. I feel that if we allow gay marriage, than other forms of sexualality will want to break the rules too. Such as polygamy and animalia.

very true^. i agree with gay marraige 100%. some say its unconstitutional, yet its in the pledge of alleginace: libery and justice for ALL. not liberty and justice for heterosexuals. denying these people marraige is denying them of their basic rights as an american citizen. i dont mean to be prejiduce, but i largely the recent bans on gay marraige on religion. this is one of the reasons i disagree so much with strong faiths, its like people cant even from their own opinions anymore. if you asked a person who had no idea what gay marragie was if it was ok it almost seems as if they would thumb through the bible asking hmmm, whats gods opinion on this? once i know it then i can agree with it.
if the bible didnt discriminate gays i believe this wouldnt even be an issue. seperation of church and state right? not in this issue, which is wrong

arsenol601, in this case it would be impossible to have seperation between the church and the state because the law comes from the state, but you have to get married in a church...so how the hell are you going to get seperation?? in this case it is inevitable....

I think that homosexual people should be allowed to marry if they wish. Part of the reason why they want to get married is to legally recognise the partnership that they share. In cases I've heard of, because the couple isn't married, the family can intervene if one partner dies and take posessions of their things. They just want to be legally recognised as the life partner of the person they love. I don't see any problem with that. The government can't outlaw homosexuality, why not just accept it? I know how upset I would be if the government wouldn't allow me to marry my boyfriend- think about their feelings.

GVAR501, i understand what your saying about there not being a seperation in the sense that its a state law, and you have to get married in a church, but im talking about the seperation in the sense that religious beliefs arent supposed to apply to or effect the way a state law passes, in this way there is little or no seperation

how don;t gay married people contribute to society? i mean economically, without kids they do not impact us with education or health costs assoicated with kids. if they do want children, they could adopt, furthur lessening the burdon of tax payers.

some churces have decided to allow marriges (one anglican church in gay town toronto for instance).

also, homosexuality is natural. every species, right down to the fruit fly has homos.

finally, gay marrige was allowed in ancient greece, so i guess what i mean to say is...

its a deal. the day that i start infringing on other peoples rights, ill let you know... im still waiting for the state to grant me the same financial advatages that they give to latinos in california. i really think its unfair that they get special treatment in university admittance, and in scholarship opportunities. i want to have the same rights as mexican americans do in california. but im not a mexican? doesnt matter. why should i not get equal rights and protection under the law? its infringing on my right to an affordable education.

i don't belive it's the 'right to get married' because of how the church claims marraige is something that they decided was man and woman only. Gay's have a right to some sort of Union...maybe call it 'GAY marriage' aslong as it's a different institution than marriage then you've fixed the problem.

but im really great in math. i could go to MIT i guess, but i really feel like i should go to juliard. its not really my fault that i wasnt born pre-disposed to be a musician. i mean, i can get a great education elsewhere, but i really feel like i should be entitled to go to juliard. because i want to.


my point with the stupid analogies is this: there are a lot of things that we can or cant do in life due to who we are. i cant get the type of admission breaks to law schools that minorities get. i cant go to juliard because im not a good enough musician. i can, however, get a comperable education in some other subject that will do just as well for me in life.

homosexuals should get, as a lot of you put it, the 'rights' to things like hospital visitation rights and being included in their partners will, and whatever else is being discussed. this does not mean, however that they are entitled to 'marrige' just the same as im not entitled to check the box that says 'latino' on my law school applications.

my real problem, however, with this subject, that goes beyond gay marrige is that of judicial activism. if judges wanted to legislate law, then they should run for congress. When a law is passed by the majority of the people of a state or a nation, it is objectionable to me when one judge inserts what he or she might consider to be their 'superior' will. Unfortuatly for them, we are not living in a platonic society, where there is a tyrrany of the upper eschelons of society.

judges need to enforce the laws that are passed by the people. if the judiciary really did their job, then they would serve as constitutional constructions, and declare laws unconstitutional only when they actually are, in light of the literal wording of the constitution. the problem with judicial activism is that the vast majority of judges who practice this method are porgressive in nature, and who love nothing more than to assert what they see to be their superior will on the people who apparently dont know any better.

this whole phenomenon goes further than just the gay marrige thing, but its a prime example.

homophilia is an alternative lifestyle. Marriage is DEFINED as the joining of a MAN and a WOMAN. If we bend one rule, where are we to not bend another? Should polygamy be allowed? Should a 30 year old be allowed to marry a 7 year old? Should a person be allowed to marry a sheep?

How is it irrelivant, if you're going to claim that they don't have equal rights and are being discriminated against it goes farther than just marriage it definatly goes into the workplace. African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians, even the Irish, and women were all discriminated against in a similar matter in the workplace, now with Affirmative Action, if you're a minority (and yes, gays are a form of minority, although not included in affirmative action) than you're likely to be chosen above someone else with the same or even slightly better skills because they are white. I've personally experienced this as a job I was applying for had to meet quotas for black workers, and a guy who hadn't even graduated high school was chosen over me, who had expertise. What's to say that gays aren't going to turn into this sometime in the future. 'Oh I'm sorry Straight Billy, you can't have this awesome job because Fairy Tommy applied and we have to meet quotas!' Start treating them special like that and you'll see.

How does homosexual marriage affect you? If you are disgusted by it, than just ignore it-it should be easy for you considering the statement you have just given.

Christianity didnt invent marriage, so why do some people believe that it has a claim over it. Marriage involves the government believe it or not, is it not written in the constitution that people will not be persecuted based on their religion? Well, homosexuals have fewer rights, eg the right to marry AND they are persecuted by the so-called 'bible-belt' states that seem to worship the constitution. Can you say hypocrisy? The fact that you can be jailed because of your own private thoughts that do not affect ANYBODY is totally discriminant and unconsitutional.

I understand your feelings towards this, and I'm not going to call you or anybody who shares your views a bigot- its just, i really wish you would open your eyes a little more, and give into consideration those who are actually affected by your actions.

there are only two proven sexualities, asexuality and heterosexuality. Therefore the practice of same sex sexuality is only a philia, until the 'gay gene' is found I will refer to it rightly so as homophilia.

Anyways I hadn't heard of any of them being arrested for defiling the sanctity of marriage. If you could dig up alink to one of these occurances I'd appreciate, I don't mean any offense ... just want to broaden my knowledge on the issue.

To the person who started this thread.. If you feel that gay marriage is a 'step towards the destruction of this country', take a look around you. This country is already fucking destroyed. America is Trillions of Dollars in debt. It is hated, even despised, by most of the World. We have a president who has less knowledge Then many high school students; and over 50 percent of our population is dumb enough to listen to propaganda created by his staff and re-elect him. America has 5% of the worlds population and uses 50% of earth's resources. We also have the largest percentage of overweight and obese people in this fine country. Yet, while all these serious issues abound, the great American Government can find nothing better to squabble about than wether or not the few homosexual people in this country should be allowed to express their love for each other through marriage. If you dont like it, dont look. Focus on some of the real issues facing America, not meaningless squabbles such as this.

andy, the issue of giving these people the right of marraige is not 'treating them special'. we give them what every other straight american has, their bacis rights, nothing more. and as i said earlier, there probably will be the occasional gay moron who tries to take it to the level of the workplace by lying, but its not like giving hese people right to marraige is going to start a chain reaction into gays thinking they can get whatever they want not they have the basic rights. it does work like that
