Looking for a hand gun

I recently found out my job allows me to carry concealed, and i'm lookin for a good concealable hand gun. any recomendations?

To the OP, as stated above, a Glock 19 is the end-all be-all for all around combat pistol. Small enough to conceal(I'm 5'9" 140lbs and run one under a tee shirt no problem), large enough to get a firm positive grip on, great magazine capacity, cheap, readily available, and, last but not least, it is a Glock.

Meh, the glock is not the end all of semi auto 9mm pistols. Personally, I'd prefer a CZ, FN or HK. All are more expensive, and last time I was looking for a pistol CZs were unobtanium.

I'll admit, I am a Glock fanboi. When I say that, I mean it in the sense of all around, good for everything, won't let you down pistol. When I go to purchase my 2nd 19, if there is a FNX-9 available, I'll go for that. But as a presumably first pistol, can't go wrong with the Glock.

Not my concealed carry gun yet (as I'm not 21) but I have a Ruger SR40C and it's an excellent gun. It's small enough to conceal if need be and the 40 cal packs enough stopping power to be effective when push comes to shove. Not to mention, Ruger handguns are very reliable and durable.

Find the right kind of ammo (for whatever gun you end up with this is a crucial step, it matters a lot), keep her clean, and she'll never give you an issue.

Glock 19 in 9mm, you can upgrade later with more experience but this should be everyones standard CCW. If you want some more informed opinions go ask http://www.reddit.com/r/CCW

its just straight up unnecessary

lets look at your reasons for op to purchase a glock:

Small enough to conceal: correct, on a daily basis? no.
large enough to get a firm positive grip on: this is just a pretty dumb statement
great magazine capacity: op lives in california and its illegal to have a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds
cheap, readily available: .22 caliber ammo is one of the most manufactured ammo, also one of the cheapest
last but not least, it is a Glock: who doesnt love a glock, ill give you this one

can already see where this thread will end up though. OP gets a block, ends up using it for home protection, buys smaller gun to carry

I conceal my 19 on a daily basis. And I'm a pretty small person.

Have you tried to buy .22LR lately? Good fucking luck finding that before you find 9mm.

Well I carry my 19 on me everyday and yes it is small enough to carry on a daily basis.

It is large enough to get a firm positive grip on unlike many tiny carry guns.

I'm currently living in NC so I can have 15+1 in the gun.

.22LR is extremely hard to find right now and is a terrible defensive round compared to 9mm

Are you implying they make 22lr Glocks? Because they don't.

Hahaha you obviously don't understand weapons and ammo. Most .22 rifles and handguns fire the .22 LR. Long rifle just refers to the cartridge size. Also glock makes multiple firearms specifically for c&c such as the slimline and slimline compact. Those pistols are less than an inch wide and the compact uses mags with integrated grips so the pistol grip isn't so long.

For me, I looked into a .22 as a CCW very seriously, and decided I wanted something with a higher stopping power. I understand that the mere psychology of getting shot is enough to stop most offenders, but I want each and every shot that lands in a worst case scenario to count in a meaningful way, meaning knocks them ass backwards-- something a .22 just won't do.

It's not about dick measuring (to an extent, unless you get something like a S&W 500 or equally retarded) but rather effectiveness. My 2 cents.

You're fucking stupid, 22lr is fucking weak compared to any actual handgun caliber. Look at the amount of energy .22 carries vs. 9mm, its not even close to being able to put down a threat in safe and efficient manner. If you're worried about size don't get a fucking full size, get one of the smaller glock models.

Something that fires a 9x19mm parabellum round. Or just go fire a bunch, its all personal preference really. Find something that fits nicely in your hand so that its comfortable to fire and aim, thats fairly important, if you have tiny bitch hands and/or you are short, i would suggest sticking to a 9mm, .45's are big. have a look at some sig sauer, Walther, Ruger and glocks.

i'm in the coast guard. but the part that allows me a to carry concealed is i'm a boarding officer. (federal law enforcement) i deal with sketchy meth heads all the time. it'll be nice to feel a bit safer while in places like stockton or oakland. ppl hate law enforcement

Body armour is not a difficult thing to find or a rare thing when it comes to dealing with criminals who are carrying a weapon, go try to fire a .22 through body armour, then pick up a 9x19 parabellum and realize the difference between a high powered weapon and a 9mm.

Where the fuck have you been for the last year? .22 ammo has been the HARDEST ammo to come by forever and the only way to get any is to pay out the ass and buy from people selling it for $40+ a brick.

Ammo in general is hard enough to get after Sandy Hook but .22 ammo doesnt exist in anymore. It sells out within minutes.

Why would you want to pack a .22 anyways for daily carry? Sure a Glock 19 might be big but you can carry a 9mm compact or subcompact just as easy as any .22 out there and I wound never trust my life (if it came down to it) to a .22 bullet that consistently has misfires, has shit accuracy, and doesnt have hardly any stopping power.

I'll keep my XDM compact with 13+1 rounds of 155 JHP's. You can do what you wish...
