I Might Die-Typhoon Haiyan

I'm a Missionary for the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. (mormons) I have been a missionary for a year and a half. I have been assigned here in Philippines. Its a really great country. Yesterday i was informed that a very large typhoon is coming to hit the area where i am assigned- Eastern Vesias. Since yesterday the Typhoon has gotten stronger. At first i thought that this would just be another rain storm, but earlier today i witnessed a van pushed off one of the main highways due to a high wind... The storm hasnt even hit yet. Its expected to hit early Friday Morning(tomorrow)

These people here dont stand a chance as most of them live in houses of bamboo, or tin walls and roofs. These people will struggle through this storm, so all i ask of our community is to keep them in your prayers or thoughts and lets hope the best for them.

I consider any religion to be humbug. Also keeping them in prayers will not help, it might make people feel more at ease(not even joking) but it isn't really going to help those in the Philippines or is it? Unless it somehow makes Zeus shows up and decides to lay down the typhoon.

Stay safe though, and with you the people over there.

Dude, you kinda fucked up in the "being smart" department when you decided to serve your church's will by trying to convert people but now is your chance to make up for it... get the fuck out of there. What's the point in hanging around for something so god damned dangerous?

Also if you do survive and you do hang around in the aftermath, please do not "baptize" the dead and report them as new members to the Church... that's the scummiest thing I've heard of am organized religion doing.

Best of luck man, I really hope you are/will be doing ok when the storm hits. As for your church, I have no problem with people believing what they believe, as long as they don't force those beliefs on other people, and that's where my dislike of many missionaries kicks in. Hopefully you're just there to be the best ambassador for your church and your country and help people that need help. Hell, you might save some lives. Vibes and good luck to you and all the others that will be affected by this.

Hurricane chaser that I know hasn't been heard from since just before the eye came ashore. Not good... He was probably in a much safer/fortified place than this kid.

UPDATE:
Everything is not good. I cant say things are getting better either. I feel super sorry for these people. Basically have lost everything they are. Things got a little scary during that storm. We lost the tin roof to our home but that was nothing compared to what some people are suffering. I have spent time serving the people here. Putting peoples homes back together. Trying to re-locate families and supplying water and food. Tomorrow morning i will be evacuated to an new island that also has been hit. Its called Mindoro. Its further North. I am very lucky and fortunate to be able to serve these people here. they need all the help that they can get. Thanks NS for your concern and love for the Filipino people.
