There were tracks on Horsebowl in Breck yesterday. I skied 10 and 9 and the snowpack was ok, though nothing was steep enough to slide. People have skied ballroom has well. Pretty much everything at Breck is skiable below treeline. Above treeline, you could in many areas. Breck patrol was out today bombing like crazy for a few hours it seemed.
yeah they were blasting breck a lot the other day. I'd bet contest bowl would possibly open for hiking soon...
ski'd berthoud pass today, the HHA trees are pretty much good to go and I found a lot of super deep spots. felt great. I saw some tracks through the plunge even though it looked a bit sparse... Going to go higher up into the current creek/XYZ area next time I head out. coverage is great right now!!
Stoked to see this thread up and running! Looks like its been goooood down there. I'll be back around the holidays and am looking forward to being able to check in here and see how the snowpack is evolving and whats up!
Bump, anyone got anything to share? I've checked out a zone in Montezuma (Summit County) and Buffalo Pass in Steamboat, didn't ski either. Hopefully I'll do some skiing by the end of this season!
Skied North Facing chutes off Tiger Run Road, top of Humbug, down American. And then back down the South Facing lines as well. North facing side is below treeline and snowpack was great. About 12inches on top off a strong slab. South facing aspects were crusted over and almost bulletproof. Great skiing off the Northside for sure. I will be back out there soon for sure!
Does anyone know where this is in Summit County? This is from member "Reed" in the 2011-2012 backcountry thread, I have tried contacting him and have not had any success.
This zone looks like a great place for our group to get our real first turns in, relatively safe terrain but certainly not boring:
was out in mayflower gulch saturday then vail pass sunday. Saw 2 obvious melt-freeze layers as we dug pits in both places. They're not too unstable after extensive sheer testing but could still be an issue down the road. Otherwise there's the obvious deep persistent slab under the very stable midpack, not likely to be triggered but if it does it'll go big.
Definitely saw some lines I wanna ski in mayflower gulch come spring time!
Just skied the Northeast Aspect of the Shoulder of Mt Guyot, right along the treeline. The snow was absolutely blower with this new storm! About 12-18inches of consistent light snow on atop of a solid snowpack. The turns were sick.
Just skied Iron Maiden Chute and Cici's Chute off Peak 5 today. Snow was captain crunch but stable as hell. First time skiing out there and it was def worth it. You can get right back on the K chair to Peak 6. Good times for sure and great terrain out there.
