do you have to wax rails for urban? if so, do you just use base wax?

I always just hit them as is. Never had a problem. Generally they're prime rails that are smooth with nice paint. If they get hit regularly and don't have paint they're still probably prime from getting hit regularly. If they're gnarly and rusted I stay away.
