State school vs private college

cost aside what is better, a highly ranked business at a state school? Or a small private school with 50% acceptance rate that has a business school that isn't ranked?

Depends on the private college. Obviously the ivy leagues for example are going to be better than any state school but that doesnt mean there arent any state schools that arent good. Boulder, unc for example are some good state schools. Alot of the private arts colleges are crap. What state are you in?

a ranked state school...

Will also likely be cheaper as well and probably have more going on.

Private small colleges (especially if unranked) can actually hurt you if you are hoping that the college name will have some sort of effect on out of college job applications.

Name recognition is important and if a program isn't ranked, it's likely their name won't be very recognizable unless the person interviewing you knows someone who went there.

I will add that there are a few very well recognized small private universities. These can be great if you don't really know what you want to do and plan on going and figuring it out while there.

Ex. A degree in engineering from Pepperdine may sound more distinguished than a degree in engineering from Cal Poly SLO if someone doesn't know about engineering. Even though SLO has one of the top programs in the US for engineering and Pepperdine is unranked as far as I know.

However, if this private university has a 50% acceptance rate (that's quite high) then it may not be in that prestigious small university category, (but you didn't name it, so I could be wrong).

I guess it's about who you want to impress, if it is a prestigious small university, then do you want to impress the general public with that name, or the people in your field with cum laude in the ranked program?

Public school. No doubt. Debt is ownership, especially at 200K of it.
if you wanted to pay it off in 25 years at 3 percent interest its 12,375 dollars a year.
