2014 Chronics mounted wrong?

The tech at the shop mounted my bindings 1 cm in front of the center line that Line has marked on the ski.

He measured the ski and said that "true" center measured out to be about 4 cm in front of the center line that is marked. He then told me if I want to be a bit more balanced on rails and boxes that they should be mounted in front of the line that is marked.

I'm gonna hit rails and boxes but I also want to be able to shred outside the park.

Did he fuck up the mount?

Core center and true center are two different things.

A lot of times the marks on the graphics aren't correct, so the tech could be right. Measure them and see where the mid line on your boot sits when clicked in. In the future, just measure out yourself and sharpie a line on there...

Since the chronic isn't a symmetrical ski, I assume the recommended line is at core center, not true center. If that's the case, then I don't think being 1cm forward will be to big of a deal. I do think the shop guy should have contacted you first before making the assumption to drill in front of the recommended line. Just to be sure.

I hate the term "core center" because to me there is only one center, and that is halfway between the tip and tail. The recommended line is always at the thinnest point of the ski (middle of the sidecut). Alot of companies put scales on for mounting elsewhere.

your tech sounds like he's doing it right, and it sounds like you're the one making him almost sound wrong. Any tech who mounts a ski center using the mark on the topsheet is an idiot, half the time those topsheets (especially on a line ski which is mass produced) are just thrown on there very quickly using a machine, and not always laid perfectly centered.

Put your boot in the ski then measure to see if the middle of your boot is aligned with the middle of the ski. if so, then you're fine. if not, then if you did indeed tell him you wanted a center mount then go back and complain.

i'm willing to bet that if he mounted them 1 cm difference between the left and right ski you wouldn't even notice.

park kids complaining about a few millimeters on a mount is hilarious to me.

Tech sounds right. If you go in with a set of park skis and ask for center mount, the bindings will likely be mounted halfway between the tip and tail. Core center is the center of the sidecut or whatever, which is not the same as the geometric center (halfway between tip/tail) on chronics.

This is why if I were getting something mounted, I draw a sharpie line on my skis and make sure they know where I want them.

Core center is the thickest point of the ski what else would you call it?  Recommended is where the bindings are optimal for that kind of ski normally (though it varies depending on what you want the ski for)

Im a big fan of any brand that puts scales from true/core center to recommended.
