It's skier of the YEAR, not of their careers. Henrik threw a nosebutter triple, won X Games, put out a movie, and had a much bigger year than Candide IMO.

And in addition to his amazing competition season which landed him on almost every podium, he made time to visit his fans and shredd with them for the Inspired Demo Tour, spreading the stoke and sharing the love to 50 small resorts!! Always taking time to update blogs, posting video along the way, and filming for the movie "Let It Flow". All this and still accomplishing huge things at the contests. Plus he is genuine, gracious, humble and happy. He's got it all going on and deserves the win for his epic season.

Henrik came into X-Games and won after skiing with kids on the east coast all year. He's done so much this year. Although, this video is still the best thing ever.

No doubt this is one of my favorite edits of the year, but compare this to Let It Flow and an X Games win with a legendary trick while touring around the country with his fans. Henrik takes this one home.

why?

candide is the #1 all-around skier of all time. period. one of my favorites for sure. he always way ahead of his time even after a potentially career ending injury a few years ago. few words was ridiculous

then there's henrik. x-games, 1st attempt stomps a trick that nobody will probably ever do and at a comp no less, films a ton, and is part of a tour around the country that is beyond awesome and so good for our sport. that tour takes so much dedication. they show up to all these shitty little hills beyond stoked day after day.

i mean the contest itself is going to reward a more contest oriented skier.

i'd love to see candide win, but its hard to discredit what henrik did last year.

I agree that Candide is definitely one of the greatest and most influencial skiers of all time, I don't think that it is possible to say that he was the #1 PERIOD. There are so many others that you have to consider as well.

But in regards to the contest, I think that Candide is a better skier overall, and I would have voted for him last year with Few Words, but Henny had such a clutch season with the X Games and all of his edits, I'll have to go with him.

I know I ll get downvoted , but I honestly think Nick Goepper had a more notable year then Candide. As others have said, its about the accomplishments and skiing from the past year, nothing to do with career, or being a legend.


For reference: Candide is the only pro skier I have met (when he was still injured I met him while waiting in the Roissy airport and he talked to me for like 5 mins about skiing) and Few Words is my all time favourite documentary style ski film.

Candide is great, but two things: first, the point about the demo tour can't be overstated and second, the super bumpy pov shots in this edit drive me crazy.

Is that because the whole edit is super bumpy POV shots? I had forgotten that was the case and posted based on what I remembered of the edit. Either way, why would you have that be "half the point" of your video. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how that adds anything to what is otherwise some pretty dope skiing. I get that the shots look like that because of the super chopped up stuff he's skiing, I just think its super annoying. Maybe when filming in the park, filmers should just shake the shit out of their cameras. I bet that would lead to a really great product.

the point of the POV is showing that it's an average day. Not some filmed, three or four take lap through the park. Don't get me wrong, I love flicks, but the point of that edit is to show a day in the life. It's gonna be choppy, it's POV.

You aren't missing anything, you just aren't putting it all together. You "get that the shots look like that because of the super chopped up stuff he's skiing" and its "some pretty dope skiing" and its called One Of Those Days. The point of the video is that he slays it in shitty sketch conditions. Without the helmet cam that is getting bounced around, just like he is, you would love that perspective.

Shaking a camera in a park is irrelevant and is not a product of the environment.

That's not what we're arguing. No need to talk ages about Candide's skiing, just watch. But this year, no filming released, two 4min videos, Freestyle CH was just a show. Ok, maybe Candide Invitational will come again. But Enrik deserves.

Candide did come back after several serious injuries, its quite impressive a 30 year old can still ski terrain parks at his level. That being said Harlaut will win.

Henrik (& Phil) did a grassroots demo tour and are donating 100% of their earnings of "Let it Flow" to charity. Not to mention Henrik threw one of the craziest tricks to win X Games gold, which IMO turned out to be one of the sickest segments of the year.

If that's not deserving of Skier of the Year, I'm not sure what is...

Can we talk about how Lisa Zimmerman isn't even in SOTY?????

Her dub 12 is going to do WAYYYYYYYYYYY more for the future of women's skiing compared to Kaya's 84th x games medal....

She and Elyse were the only exciting things in women's skiing last year basically.

Props to Henrik on this one !
He had such an insane season, probably one the best season an athlete could hope for.

Look out for Candide this year, I'm sure he'll be back in SOTY next October for good reasons :)
