Utah peeps- tell me about Southern Utah

I know tons of newschoolers are from Utah so appreciate any info anyone has on the southern part of the state.

Basically I want to live somewhere with good cheap year round golf not too far from West coast mountains.  I was in Las Vegas for 6 weeks a month ago and ended up driving to Mesquite NV literally once a week because the golf was so much better, cheaper, and less crowded than Vegas.  Therefore I'd consider living in St George Utah given its location to Nevada and not being too far from skiing.  2 hours to Vegas and 4 hours to Snowbird would work.

But the only thing I think of when I think of southern Utah is polygamy multiple wives.

Questions:

-Is Polygamy big?  Will you see dudes with 6 wives rolling through walmart?  Is it normal and common in the St George area or not really?

-How bad are the cops with weed, will I have to be really worried if I want to bring a bag with me if I go up to altabird to shred that getting pulled over could cause real problems just having a few grams?

-Are most people normal or is it going to be hardcore mormons and retirees?


- Is Brian Head decent skiing or a total waste of time?

You will see polygamy in S. Utah, but mostly in Colorado city, it isn't really too large, and hardly noticeable. Just got in the trees at snowbird and alta, as far as I've heard patrol isn't too strict. Most people are mormon, but they are usually very nice, but you will me some diehards. Brian Head has a fair park, and can get good powder days.

Yes I like Mormons BYU is chill I like them in sports.  (Retired old people are dicks I'm sure I'd like the mormons way more.)

Everyone being mormon doesn't sound like anything that would effect me.


Maybe I'd want multiple wives too if I moved there, I am the type of person who takes a 'When in Rome' attitude towards everything.  



Yeah I spent a good chunk of time in 2 supposed golf hotbeds in the south west (Tucson last Jan and Vegas this September) found both places to be overrated all things considered for golf, Mesquite or St George would be much better than either.

Polygamy should be legal if gay marriage is btw.

Lots of women are bi and lots of bi women are in strait relationships despite being attracted to men.  I really have a hard time seeing anything wrong with it.

wtf do people think Utah is? Is polgamy legal? Utah's fine man. I've lived here 5 years and the only religious activity I have seen is random mormon fellows knocked on your door.

People say beer sucks but just go to the liqour store and every things fine. St. George is awesome BTW if you love the heat. I don't know about golf but every time I have been down there it has been hot as balls.

Polygamy leads to problems because rich guys end up with a bunch of wives and the poorer people have no options for women. While this doesn't seem like a big deal, having a bunch of sexually frustrated young men who are already pissed at their low socioeconomic status leads to instability. The young guys in southern utah who don't fit in with their polygamist compounds tend to have a hard time finding any women and a lot of them leave the compound and get into petty crime, drugs, and homelessness.

SLC has golfing year round, last year was an exception because the valley had snow for 2-3 month (very unusual). Ive golfed in every month in slc.


I would not live in s. utah and 4 hrs to ski? do you really need golf THAT bad dec-feb? What do you do for a living?

Sell tickets on stubhub.

I like good empty golf courses where I can blast through rounds by myself in 2 hours on a cart so remote is good for golf trying to avoid a big city.  Im extremely spoiled.

I like the idea of multiple wives.  I think the comment hte guy made above about how it ends up being rich guys hoarding all the wives shows that more normal people have to start being polygamous to make it not like that.  I'd only do it with girls who were closer to lesbians than straight becase that way everyones a winner.

And due to price reasons I have considered (not that serious) living in Kingman or BUllhead AZ for the same reasons (dirt cheap close to Vegas) so I think this area would be way better than that.

You'll see some polgamist families at national and state parks. They keep to themselves for the most part, but they do like to recreate.

Brianhead is great.

South/central Utah is a rural labyrinth of which you have never seen. Exercise extreme caution.

Oh yeah is it safe?

Cheap apartments OK?  How about if you live in manufactured maybe not in a park but around other cheap houses?

I mean Im gonna be that dude who they see with a 10 year old volvo and walking by with golf clubs twice a day I will get some of the wrong attention its not a big deal anywhere but the crappiest of places (the weekly place I stay in Tuscon is fine to do this) so is everywhere in that area reasonably OK?

For example I don't have the balls to go live in any of the motels in downtown Reno for 500 bucks a month even though they are probably fine I draw the line right above that.

i live in cedar city and its an awesome place yeah there are a lot of mormons but most are only mormon by name. brian head is only 30 minutes up the canyon and is decent. cedar has a golf course but ive never gone.

Good bump.

I hung out in a Buffalo Wild Wings in St George to watch football one Sunday on the drive home to the east coast it was the week the Patriots smoked the Cowboys. It sucked there was no baller ass Mormon families chilling and eating with 10 wives deep. I was told u had to go Walmart if you wanted to see them. People at the bar explained what it was like to grow up in a polygamous house.


Sounds like the only men who pull off the multiple wives things are way too old to be able to enjoy it and get it up and bang their wives. Its pretty grimey how they usually go about meeting them too usually paying the family of a 17 year old girl to pressure her into it.
