Who here goes to the University of Washington?

I'm a Sophomore at Umaine, I came here for running but I stopped and want to go out west. The University of Washington is the only college on the west coast that will take my credits for my marine science major. Anyone here know anything about the university/go there? Thanks guys

Current freshman here. Can't attest to the ski scene yet, but academically, UW is pretty rigorous if you choose to make it so. The majority of departments here are ranked reasonably high compared to the rest of the US. Look into your department a bit more and see what they have to offer. In regards to location, there's tons to do around the U-district/Seattle, and there are four ski resorts <2.5 hours away.

I'm a sophomore, and I know a fair number of people my year and above who ride, but the scene is pretty fragmented here. There is more than one related organization. The race team, the ski school, and what is basically a casual ride share are what you have to choose from. The people I know aren't part of any of that for the most part, because they're not that good for what we do.
Best options for skiing are Snoqualmie and Stevens passes. Both have college passes for ~$300, and I and most of the people I ride with have a pass to both this year.

Senior in mechanical engineering. Depending on your major you can get some pretty awesome opportunities, but if you want them you really have to go and get it. Skiing around here is dope regardless of what you like. Stevens has a good park and everywhere has killer backcountry/slackcountry. Baker sucks, though. If your looking for a group in the school that's pretty chill and just goes and rides talk to the snowboard club actually. It's more of a ski and snowboard club really. They can hook you up with rides if you're nice. As far as class schedule goes, it really varies. This winter I'm probably going to have class three days a week, but this quarter I'm getting slammed.

On the real, though. I actually transferred to the UW from the east coast for my last two years. Credits don't transfer so well because of the whole quarters/semesters thing, but if you talk to you adviser it's really easy to get it all sorted out.

If anyone for whatever reason didn't get the college pass for like 300 bucks at Stevens
( https://www.stevenspass.com/site/passes/season-passes/college ) which is a little over an hour up the 522, or a part time teaching kids at Snoqualmie which is shittier but essentially a little less than free (or more expensive than the college pass at Stevens if you don't teach) and like 45 min down I90; but are deciding to ski at Crystal this season, I will be driving there from UW very very frequently if you're trying to carpool.
And if you are in that group of people that I just described who have been or are commuting to Crystal from UW, you should also PM me why you would do that and let me know if you know any good busses, clubs that go there often, carpools, ski cabins or any other good ways to save gas you have found, so I can save some research time and experimenting.

Everyone here pretty much just says fuck Crystal and goes to Snocompton or Stevens or both. Not worth the drive and high prices.

I thought crystal was maybe worth it just on the grounds that the bathrooms were fanciful, but it turns out snowbasin has marble countertops and shit so I dont really see anything redeeming about crystal anymore~

Science/engineering/tech are a big thing here, but be prepared for profs who teach only so they can do research. Seattle is cool, but the social scene here can take a while to find if you start in a crappy part of the dorms like I did.

It's rigorous but there are good profs in every field if you can find them. I'm a bio major and it's hit or miss. As for living, I kinda hate it I wish I'd gone to western, but for a city it's alright. I dormed the first year and made good friends, but I know people who hated it. It's all what you make it.
