The STH2 releases at DIN for boots with either traditional Alpine or licensed WTR (Walk to Ride) soles. So the WTR sole blocks that Solly makes for their Quest series release at DIN, in every lateral toe ejection. This is due to plastics sliding over the AFD (anti friction device).
However, boots with semi rockered or vibram soles such as the Tecnica Cochise or Scarpa Freedom will not release at DIN. The rubber in these soles causes more friction than a DIN release would call for. You can fit them into the binding however because STH2s accommodate their BSH (boot sole height).
Then boots like the Scarpa Maestrale or Dynafit Vulcan won't fit at all. Not sure if you can stuff them into the binding. Forget about releasing at DIN.
At the moment, the other alpine binding to accommodate fully rockered soles is the Marker Lord SP, supposedly. Haven't heard enough about that binding.
I don't know what about this new toepiece makes it capable, yet. Waiting patiently for SIA (:
