Arm Swing - The New Afterbang? Or just a fad...

Been noticing a lot of kids trying to force the Berman arm swing... I think it looks good but majority of the time makes every trick look super forced and unnatural... Maybe it's just me but I give it a season...

eh, I always kind of considered it another part of afterbang. That edit took it way too far though, I can understand it after landing a really quick spin, but on a slow ass 270 it just looks weird.

When it's down right it looks sooooo good. It doesn't get much better than in this edit.


But there are a lot of people who overdue it, it just looks like garbage when you seeing someone trying to force it.

when people "do it right" it's because they're stomping landings so cleanly and effortlessly that they are relaxed and their arms swing

NOT because they're trying so hard to make it look like that's what happened

stop trying to copy good skiing, and actually just get good at skiing and the rest will follow

Oh for fucks sake, just let your style come naturally along with your skiing.. Dont force your arms to swing around like a fucking orangutan reaching for bananas. And yes, your example is exactly what I mean.

Landings look way sicker when you land upright, maybe just slightly back, with maybe a little arm swing the way walnuts and brogan did it. None of this shit where people are hunched over flailing it looks retarded.

these landings look way better than Bdog's

This, whenever I full cab or bs 3 skateboarding my arms go fucking everywhere.

Also it's a symptom tall skiers with orangutan arms suffer from, I should know at 6'3

in skateboarding you do tricks way more quickly and sometimes the body/arms have to catch up

i see skiers these days do straight airs and then "armfterbang"... the f is that?

a good example is will bermans shots in this edit.  personally i think his armswing/armterbang is the best one out just because it is not forced at all, the no pole factor plays in but i also think its more natural on different tricks. it would look more natural on for example cork 3 or 5 than a like a backflip or a dub 10

i think we need to stop micro analyzing every aspect of everyones style and trying to come up with a consensus for whether its cool or not. grab your grabs, stomp your landings and try to keep it loose and natural, whatever else happens whether its arm swing or heavy head or afterbang or whatever is purely coincidental and shouldn't be forced.

Sometimes it is forced and other times people are just letting their arms and upper body loose to go with the natural movements.

Who cares just go skiing and have fun. Keep it natural and do what is comfortable and your style will come out on its own. Everybody's got their own style. There is no right and wrong. Some people think stuff looks good that other people do not.

OP thanks for finally saying something about this. Yeah everyone has their own style but this arm swing thing idoes not look good. I don't think it looks good when Casabon does it, and it even looks like he is "trying too hard." It's like, "Chill out, dude. You don't need to swing your arms that much."

However a slight arm swing like Brogan's that looks natural is cool. I think Brogan had way better steez than Casabon.

I would rather see hands-in-pockets landings any day over the primal looking, ass up, arm toss, "stylin" landing. If you don't think this fad/style hasn't taken over yet, skiers this season will be displaying plenty of it, as they did with afterbang 5-7 years ago.
Casabon is a perfect example when talking about adopting such a style. Casabon wasn't into the full fledged arm wave "style" until B&E started blowing up. The 08-09 movie, Refresh, portrayed the perfect balance of style and trick selection that put Casabon up with the best skiers in the world. I wish I could say that now, 4 years down the road. Skiing has become progressive so to speak, no one wants to fit in when it comes to how they look or what tricks they are doing. When everyone is trying to be different, they will find out that they are only being the same.
