Withdrawing from a College Course

-went to apply for graduation
-realized I couldn't graduate in spring with Psych major and Phil minor
-elected to just graduate with Psych major
-thought, "Now I can get out of that bullshit Classic Chinese Phil 5150 course and not take 6 classes"
-check dates to withdraw from classes
-deadline was Oct. 25 (FUKKKKKKKKKKKKKK)
-now university will only accept dean petitioned / accepted withdraw from class.
-have B+ in class but its deterring away from the classes I actually want / need to apply for the real world.



Anybody out there successfully gotten out of a class past all the major deadlines without legitimate circumstance? Really don't want to be locked into this bullshit class. The topics are interesting buts it's the hardest class of my life on top of 5 major-oriented classes. Unless my dean is a homie and understands my situation to get out without sacrificing my GPA, I think i'm locked into learning more of the Xunzi and Han Feizi ways.....

It took you 3 months to realize you should drop a 500 level chinese philosophy class not related to your major...?
Last year I attempted to take 8am chinese history class to fulfill my history gened and after the first class I went home and immediately dropped that shit.

I know I procrastinated the shit out of it but my thought was to graduate in spring then comeback to pick up phil courses in fall of 14 but the psych advisor said you can't come back for just a minor so it kinda hit the fan last minute. Thought I had my shit on lock and it bit me in the ass.

YOU ARE A PHYSCH MAJOR!!!! HOW DO ANY OF YOUR CLASSES HELP YOU APPLY TO THE REAL WORLD????

just finish the course, unless you're an A+ student if you maintain your B+ it will probably help your GPA

Write your dean an intelligent letter(not email) and make a sound argument for why your education would benefit from dropping the class rather than benefit from taking it unnecessarily.

Thats my next plan. The U of Utah is pretty strict about withdrawing after deadline, and will only accept non-academic emergencies at this point but word is that if it's for this current semester then they're a lot more lenient on the situation. I've also been seeing a professor here who also practices counseling on the side while teaching and have been seeing him monthly. I might try and throw some of that in there explaining my stress levels with taking 6 classes, my grandma passing in june, I only found out about my situation yesterday, and how I've only received one C in my entire college career. I feel that has to carry more warrant behind it compared to an underclassmen who's failing some class and forgot when the deadline was.

I'm coming back for grad school so its not for waste. I eventually want go into research or practice later, but want to take a year or two off and help in the research labs to get some experience and make my grad app look better.
