What do you guys know about them?

Where I grew up, there was no such thing. Now I live in Richmond and they're everywhere. I used to view them as kind of a joke, all punked out and stupid looking, but the recently jumped a friend of mine and almost killed him.

Are any of you edge? (doubtful)
Do you know anyone who is?
Creative ideas to get these fuckers?

loads of my friends are straight edge. Vegan straight edge to be exact. I was pretty confused over what it actually meant to bed sxe when I became friends with them, but now I respect them for their views. The people I know who are edge are the most driven, creative, friendly and cool kids I know, and they are all very involved in politics.

They are the most annoying fuckers in Richmond, they don't smoke or drink, and there all punk.
The feel very insecure in their beliefs, so they try to make themselves feel better by heckling (and in some cases attacking) drunk people/ high people/ pretty much every single fucking person who isn't "edge"

one of my friends is edge, he doesn't drink, take drugs, or really do anything in those categories. never really knew why or what the point of it was but each to their own i guess

Even back in the day. There is no fucking point to the "movement." There's absolutely no need for a movement of any kind. These are not people fighting to free themselves from oppression. They're not people who have been tied up and forced to smoke blunts and shotgun beers. There is no plight of the Straight Edge person. It's simply a person who has made a life decision and rather than simply being satisfied with their decision, they feel the need to congregate, label, and place themselves higher than those who aren't part of the club. It is elitism at its finest. From day fucking one.

Straight Edge kids are rad. Some of the best hardcore shows Ive been to are straight edge shows, becuase I dont have to deal with some drunk ass falling all over himself like a fucking fool.

There are ton of different degrees of straight edge, from people who are simply sober and dont flaunt, to the Hardliners who are vegans, anti Pharma, anti-sex, etc.

And what do you expect? Richmond has one of the largest hardcore scenes in the states, and if your buddy got jumped to almost getting killed, then he obviously fucked up somewhere.

Regardless, just respect them, and they respect you. Other than elitist dicks, which nobody likes.

Make friends with the dudes in Richmond. Ive had so many fun times up there.

Look at the amount of people in this thread talking shit on people for making the decision to be sober. Calling them squares, whatever. I tell people I struggled with alcohol in college, and get called a liar, because apparently college is a place dedicated to drinking, yet when I finally get sober, I got TONS of shit talked on me.

Do you not congregate with other people who are like minded? Especially within a scene that had such a large amount of drug/alcohol abuse?

Is it on the level of racism/sexism/whatever? no.

Does that not make it ok for them to do what they do (non-violent form)?

Otherwise, what are any political party, school club, etc.

Why do people call themselves freeskiers? because they ski park? We all ski man. Your just an elitist asshole.

No. Captain obvious hit it on the head. No one I have ever met that has overcome addiction became a part of that sXe attention whore bullshit. They focus on family, friends, work, and just live their lives. People that define themselves by something they aren't still have a lot of work to do.

People who don't use drugs. A lot of people associate straight edge with punk music, scene kids, etc, and a lot of straight edgers are involved in that, but the only defining characteristic of straight edge is not using drugs (including alcohol, cigarettes, etc)

I did just under 2 years completely sober, not even a cig or a drink. In that period I traveled to hundreds of shows and festivals. That's the place where everything under the sun is in your face constantly, and people are continually trying to push you to do it.

And honestly it really wasn't that bad. I had a great time, met some cool people and stayed sober regardless of what they were doing.


I understand hanging around like minded people in that if you aren't doing any drugs it might be far easier to hang around people doing the same. Nobody is arguing that or saying that's terrible. The straight edge kids seem to be the ones that will make sure you know they are straight edge and that they're better than you. When I introduce myself to people I don't start out by telling them that I drink beer and that they suck if they don't. But that's how some of the straight edge kids can be.

It's like a weird fucking cult. If you struggled with alcohol in college it's sounds like you were doing a ton of drinking at one point. If you barely drank in college but struggled with that you're a being a giant pussy. Not because you're sober, that's fine but because you're talking about how hard everyone was on you and your epic battle toward sobriety.

I'll put some X's on my hands for all ya'lls
