About 15 minutes ago I got a pop up that says I've broken canadian law for looking at child porn. I'm like 99% sure it's a scam because it is asking for money so I don't go to jail. But I can't close the window, what should I do? And how do I know if it's the real deal? (I definitely have not looked at child porn. EVER.)
But it's only asking for $100 and that I can only pay with Ukash or Pay safe card vouchers. If I was getting fined for child porn I think it would be more than $100 no?
I can't even shut down my computer. If it's a scam I'm probs fucked, if it's real well I'm goin to court and suein some bitches 'cause I ain't look at no fuckin' child porn.
-Force shutdown (press and hold power button, remove battery, remove power etc. Don't just let battery run out, then it just sleeps. The loss of power has to be immediate.)
-Reboot in safe mode
-Run virus scan.
I've never had ransomware (what you have), but that is what I've done to similar things.
there ya go...it was pretty obvious that it wasn't the real deal. Can you not force shut down your laptop? Its happened to other people, I'm sure you'll find something if you search on google for a bit...
i was in this situation a couple weeks ago. what i did was i filmed my self choking the chicken to legal, of age porn. I then sent it in to local authorities and am now waiting for my court dates.
Classic virus, got this a few months back. Restore you PC to yesterday (google that shit) and you should be set, and whatever you torrented to get that virus shouldn't be on there anymore
Lets use some logic here. Do you really think the government would simply lock your computer, and ask for a fine, paid using a untraceable method that you can buy at a general convenience store?
No.
This is a version of a very popular virus floating around the US, that locks computers, and asks for a $300-$500 payment, and that theyll unlock the computer when you enter the code. Funny thing is, TONS of people come in, saying that they paid, and not realizing its a scam.
Its not something your really going to be able to just fix at home, unless your ready to format the drive, so just take it to a repair shop. They wont judge, and if their worth anything, theyll know the virus.
Oh and if your wondering, when you get caught for that shit, the police come and raid your house and seize all electronic equipment. Happened 2 years ago to a neighbor down the street.
It is a scam, if it was a legit warning, the government would have tracked you to your house, it will not let you leave the page, so just shut down your comp, then restart.
Seriously with all the physical abuse my laptop has been through I would have spent twice as much as the price of my Mac just in replacing and repairing broken laptops
