Mittens VS. Gloves: What Do You Rock?

Yo! As almost any skiier/boarder knows good gloves are critical to keepin your hands dry and warm. But there are tons of different options out there! From Gloves w/ your own liners to three finger gloves options varie. But, My question is what do you rock and why? Post pictures of gloves that are killer, and have never let you down. Or, shitty gloves that you've owned in the past! I'm really interested to see peoples favorites!

i love my burton oven mitts. they cost a ton, but i can't say that my hands have ever gotten cold in them

I've dakine barons mitt for when it's cold and the dakine sabre glove for when it's not too cold

really old walmart mittens. they have a hole in between the thumb and the rest of the hand but they are still warmer then all my other mittens for some reason.

Mittens with an idiot straps so I don't lose them fiddling with stuff on a lift and a light pair of liner gloves underneath. My hands tend to freeze in gloves.

mittens or thin park gloves. although if i can find a pair of super thin/light mittens for park i would probably switch

also it was weird for me. up until the start of last year i hated mittens and could only wear gloves. now i hate gloves and prefer mittens

A lot of people say they're better than Hestras.

Mittens all the way for me though. I've been wearing the FlyLow cowskin mittens and love them but they need liners for colder days. I just picked up another pair of FlyLow mittens, the new goatskin ones and they seem bomber. Warm, thick and a nice cuff that goes over the jacket rather than under.

The winning combo is a light glove underneath a mitten with idiot straps. My light gloves shit the bed last year so this year Ill have the Saga Short Circuits under my Burton mittens.

I also feel like mittens reduce the chance of a finger injury. But thats just my gut feeling on it.

I've been rocking Wells Lamont 3211 insulated work gloves for the past 5 seasons. They're super durable, warm, and very inexpensive.

I had a pair of Hestra's back in like 2009, destroyed them completely in one season. They got cut open from doing grabs, shredded from putting a hand down on the snow for sketchy landings, and were covered in duct tape by the end of the year. And DO NOT plan on using a rope tow if you're rocking Hestra's.

the Wells Lamonts cost like $25 a pair, how can you go wrong? ...Unless you really don't like yellow gloves...

i use some random marker gloves that i've had forever, no clue what model but they for some reason keep my hands super warm


for warm days i use first drop park gloves that i got for free with pants

wells lamont for suuuure! I've been rocking their mittens for the past four years; two pairs. super durable and warm. and I gave the first pair away and decided to make a wallet out of the leather from the second pair. SUPER RECOMMEND!

basically just go to any workwear store and check out their glove/mitten selection. mittens are a bit harder to come by but you'll usually find something. go for leather with insulation and add waterproofing if you want. I never did but I was in montana where it was rarely wet snow. stood up to the MT cold though!

Idk i've always just used gloves, but by reading this thread looks like I need some mittens.

But i'll probably stick to thin pipe gloves on those warm days.

I wear gloves unless it's really super cold. I'm not a huge fan of mittens, because I like to hold my pole with two fingers (+thumb) and grab with the other two. Can't do that with mittens.

with the kinkos I have I snow seal them. If you don't they are going to get soaked and after so many treatments it toughens up the glove. I can really only use kinkos due to bumping chairs and helping with ropes. Normal gloves would get wrecked in a matter of weeks plus leather is cheaper.

Used to be a dedicated dakine mitten wearer.

Hestra seth morrison is hands down the best glove i've ever owned in any conditions. 100% worth the investment

My daily divers are some leather POW gloves. On super cold days/night skiing I wear these Dakine mitts that have weird cuts in the palm area (got them from a friend) but they are insanely warm and waterproof. And then my Saga pipe gloves for spring shredding.

I also am a Hestra Seth supporter. I bought the 3 finger after my Seth gloves were stolen and I have to say I like the dexterity of a traditional 5 finger glove way better. Mittens suck.

I have a pair of dakine fillmore mits that had just fallen apart after 4 years, so i picked up some lafa mitts. I am waiting for them to arrive, but i heard that they are pretty good.

Poc race mitts, with like finger separators on the inside for when its super cold. Some burton mitts with naked mermaids on them for when it's mild, and Gloves when its like -7 and my burton mitts arent quite cutting it.

Hestra Xtrafits are my go to glove. This will be my 4th season on them and they are still going strong.

My wife uses the Hestra XCR 3 finger mitts to keep her hands warm and she and her cold hands love them.

Plus, Hestra's hand cuff straps are the best I've seen for being low profile and not uncomfortable but idiot proof so you don't lose a glove on the lifts.

Not hating on Kinkos because I fucking love Kincos but they are not Hestras by any stretch of the imagination.

I have a few pairs of gloves, Stoics Hestras and ArcTeryx. The Stoics are mostly m lighter go to glioves and fit/dexterity is amazing for that price point. My Hestras are my backup gloves for when the stoics wet out and my ArcTeryx gloves are for freezing/storm days because they're 3L Proshell and fully waterproof.

This. I would like to have hestras but they would explode for what I would be using them for and that's a lot of money down the drain. I don't feel bad when my kinkos are trashed by spring.

I've been using Hestra vertical cut freeride gloves now for two or three years and they're great. Always warm unless it gets down below about -15ºC.

For warmer days or spring skiing, I use Pimp Hands mitts - cheap and effective.
