Is buying from Evo a good way to go?

I am planning to buy a new pair of skis this year and i was wondering what NS thinks of Evo. Are they a good company to trust? I know they offer a great deal on all skis but would it be smarter for me to buy from my local ski shop?

super stoked for this season, please help.

I like evo, but backcountry.com and all of their associated sites have lifetime "no-questions asked" warranties on all products. It's legit. My brother's bentchetlers de-laminated after 1 season and they took them straight away and refunded them.

Not anymore, backcountry changed their policy a few months ago. Only 90 days or something like that.

Do it. Unless evo doesn't have what I want, they are always the first place I go. Plus it's my local shop too so I do mounts/repairs/etc there too. It's a super legit store

Evo. Your local shop is going to just get pissed if you try to price match and on top of that you can usually find coupons past the deal advertised at Evo.

Go to your local shop for boots and quick shit. Not skis and bindings unless they magically have an amazing deal.

shops will usally have killer deals on bindings from my experiences but skis are iffy depending on the store. For me it doesnt matter because I can get pivot 14s for 190 new and 2014 $550 skis for $300 and that goes for everything in the store... they love me. if you dont have this kind of deal then go ask them the best that they can do because the last thing a shop wants is for you to pass them up and go online.

Evo is legit for sure. But I would recommend checking out backcountry.com if they have what you're looking for in stock. They offer free 2 day shipping for orders over $50 so that usually ends up being my cheapest option when I shop for my gear each year. Either website is legit but just wanted to throw that out there if you're looking to get the cheapest deal

Evo is good, Skis.com is better. But without the support of your local shop, they can't keep their doors open for you and us. So drool all your want online but go into your local shop and have them help you. I would even pay a lil more for the service at the shop and get their knowledge. If you must you can always ask if they pricematch.

evo is dope, but skis.com ships free and i typically get everything I order from them within 2 days of it shipping, evo shipping is free too if u spend a certain amount, but takes like a week or longer to get stuff.

all the brick and mortar stores need your business! thankfully the vendors listened and the online prices have risen nicely.

I would do this if they would actually provide done good service, I swear any time I go into a local ski shop the employees are either ass holes or know nothing, they always overcharge and won't price match, and even though I know the owner very well they still charge 40 for a fucking mount.

The reason you go to these small shops, I thought, was for better and more personal service. So if I can get better service and cheaper prices from the big guys, sorry, that's where I'm going

im not sure what shops you go to or where you live but we pride ourselves on our service and the fact we all ski and love the sport and look forward to helping anyone looking to ski. Bummer about your experience. Unfortunately for the mounting, we gotta make money and pay our techs. Although bringing us beer and redbull may change that.

man, the shop im talking about mounted both my skis and bindings, that i bought online, not from them, for free. I walked in there asking for a mount, expecting to pay something, and the guy comes back with my skis and when i asked how much he just said dont worry about it. a place like that EARNED my respect and now i make it a point to support them when i can. they're two hours away, so its hard for me to go there when i need something, but from that point on if i want a ski they carry, guess what? thats where im going. my local shops, even the one owned by one of my best friends dad, dont get any of my business anymore because they've only given me reasons NOT to shop there by not price matching and charging for mounts regardless of if i bought the skis there.

They sort of changed it. It is 90 days for a full refund, but they still offer lifetime warranties on gear you purchase, they just give you credit now, instead of a full refund.

Their new policy is "If your gear fails, at anytime, we will also issue you a full credit. No questions asked."

As for Evo - they're great, but they've started being less competitive with pricing, especially with their outlet stuff. They'll have something in the outlet for $100, then do a 20% off everything in the outlet sale, and that same $100 is now $120 plus 20% off to still make it the $100 it was before. So they kind of screw around with things to make it look like they're giving you a better deal than they really are.

Its such a quick and easy service.... I could get skis mounted in tourist central of Summit County for under $50 so idk why the hell anyone would ever pay $75, maybe if its the only shop around screwing their customers.

because of the liability associated with it. You've probably never read that form fully before you signed it. There is a risk associated with mounting equipment for individuals. By us mounting them and signing it passed the release tests, we are saying as a professional that you, the consumer, have a safe setup to ski. if you get hurt, hire a lawyer, and sue us, you could ultimately bankrupt us.. so yea.. if you dont spend any money in my store, i'd rather charge a hire rate and have you walk to another shop that is willing to take on that responsibility on the cheap.

maybe you should just mount them yourself with elmers glue in your parents basement if you really think an addtional $35 is too much to pay for a quality mount job AND release check.

I mount my own skis because I'm yolo as fuck. I paid $80 for a mount once, screw that. I would pay $25 tops for a mount, I hate getting screwed by shops even when I buy ALL my gear there.

if you were to buy your equipment from us, mounting is free! while mounting it yourself is pretty straight forward, you void warranty if something were to go wrong with the binding and you didn't have proof a certified tech mounted them.

im not trying to start arguments, just want to inform you guys that we shop people are all die hard skiers too just trying to make a living. that $75 mount fee will help buy us new jigs, certs, better ptex, wax, hand files. etc... its not like we're running to the bank with it. help us out and just recognize we love what we do and take pride in it. quality work costs money.

psh. even here in Breck at SlopeStyle we only charge 50 if you didn't buy anything from us. 75 is completely ridiculous, no level of mount is worth that... and above you said mount AND release check? yeah because it's so hard to test the binding for release values.... LOL

It has nothing to do with being hard, it has to do with the lawyers out there. Your shop is cool you win the price war, there are 10 other shops in your area that mount, thus more demand and lower prices. The flip side is a shop in a city where the cost of doing business is higher. Maybe the rent is higher, power costs more. Who gives a shit. This is a consumer driven business. If you don't like it don't pay for it. The guys at your local shop are not getting rich buy mounting your skis you bought on line. After the cost of the certs, labor, tools and shop most are hardly making any off you.
