Rock Climbing vs Mountain Biking

I have too many hobbies and not enough time or money, so ones got to go. I'm also sort of realizing if I actually want to be good at one of them, I should just devote my summers to one instead of splitting time to be okay at both.

Ultimately I'll make my own decision but what would you choose? I like both are really fun and I like both for different reasons.

What kind of mountain biking are you doing? DH rigs are fucking expensive.

I do more all mountain, coming downs the fun part but you have to petal up first.

I ride a Transition Vagrant and part of this thread is me trying to decide if I should sell to buy something like the Pivot Firebird or to finance climbing.

Seems to me that if you don't have enough time for all your hobbies, the ones that you enjoy least will gradually fall by the wayside. Unless you have some sort of schedule that dictates that you will go rock climbing on Monday, mountain biking on Tuesday, etc, it's strange to make a conscious decision to give up one sport. I can understand not buying additional equipment if you don't have the money, but choose to give one up?

Why ditch one. Both are way too much fun to just give one up. If cost is the issue start bouldering. Crash pad and a set of shoes $100 boom all you need.Get your bike then you're set. Problem solved and who is the cool guy that can still have all his cake and eat it too.

I would go with climbing because it's less likely you'll injure yourself doing it and who wants to be injured when ski season comes

I would go with climbing high level biking is way more expensive than high level climbing. On that dont sell your bike it will still be usefull and fun from time to time. Dont stop biking just dont pursue it as readily. Thats what I would do but im not you.

Whats your budget for gear, assuming you'll pick one or another?

Climbing is less maintenance and little repairs and probably will be cheaper than biking in general. Life moves a little slower when climbing, but both are awesome. Understand the lack of time/money though, between buying skiing, biking, climbing, backpacking, and camera gear and actually putting it to worthwhile use, it puts strain on both my wallet and schedule.

I'd pick biking though, just buy a harness/shoes and make friends with someone with a rope and other gear.
