For my senior project I'm going to make a metal rail and donate it to my local mountain, not ever making a metal rail before, I'm not too sure what type of metal to use for the rail. Any help would be great!
What are you planning on building, flat bar, tube? How long are you making it?
If you're only making something like 16 feet you could get away with one. Rect and square generally come in 24' and Round 21'.
There are places in every decent sized city. you might have to pick it up to avoid a big delivery charge. It won't be worth it for them to deliver 1 piece of steel to your house if you live off the beaten path. If you live close buy other places they deliver to they might not charge you idk. You can get smaller sizes or have it cut down at most places. Not sure what they would charge. You might be able to grab some at some sort of home improvement place like lowes or home depot. I know they 10' lengths of galvanized at some, idk what else they have. Haven't bought steel at one in 10 years(coping for a 1/4 pipe)
Do you know anyone that has a metal shop? Might be able to buy it through them.(Could even get you a discount since they buy bulk) See if your dad or friends dads have any idea.
