I know, but it's actually kind of nice. One thing that really bothers me though, is that you can't see how much free disk space you have simple by looking at the bottom of a Finder window. That was one of those tiny things that made me love Mac over PC.
Apparently not a new Mavericks feature, but how did I just find out about Back to My Mac? It lets you access your computer from any other Mac w/ an internet connection. Screen Sharing without having to set up VNC clients and with noticeably less lag.

1. three finger scroll no longer works in firefox to go to the top or bottom of a page
2. swiping down with 4 fingers to do expose no longer works. even if i have multiple windows open it just throws the current window up and no other ones. instead 4 finer swipe up apparently has something like this function now.
already tried changing stuff and restarting and all that, still no go. wat do.
Got a macbook pro with retina display for Christmas (/claim?). I've been a longtime user of Apple with iPods and iPhones, but never before a computer, so I'm kind of a Mac n00b. I'm currently running Mountain Lion 10.8.5, and I want to upgrade to Mavericks. First impressions in this thread seem to be pretty good but what people have to say about it on the app store make it sound like garbage...complaints of extreme slowness, memory wipes, glitches in Mail, etc. Just trying to sort out the drastically different opinions and decide if it's worth the apparent risk (obviously I would back my computer up even though I hardly have anything important on it yet). Help NS!
People are just more likely to write a review if they have a negative experience. I'm sure the vast majority of users have a "meh, whatever" opinion about the update and don't take the time to write a review. I've been on it since it came out and I've had no negative issues. It works a lot better with my second computer monitor and there are some other minor things that work better, I'd say go for it
if you use any stuff with macports or homebrew I would not upgrade yet. It has been a huge pain in my ass. There are a few nice features but nothing worth messing up your workflow for. The best one is surprisingly safari. I actually use it as my browser now. It's good. Also the multiple display thing is great. It's on the short list of things that OSX does better than most linux distros.
I guess for the macports thing, it's been a couple of months. I'll actually go see if octave will finally build...
