I'm applying to this school as well. If I get in a decide to go where should I ski? Bridger? Big Sky? I'm not much of a park skier, mostly looking for good snow and good terrain.

MSU is a rad school. Big Sky and Bridger offer a solid amount of in bounds terrain and absolutely ridiculous slackcountry access.

Bozeman is fucking rad. That place is electric this time of year for shreddy.

because after this season they will cease to be separate entities. in fact, if boyne could get away with it, they'd be forcing everyone who just has a moonlight pass this year to upgrade. they are one and the same now, RIP.

I know Boyne bought them (fuck Boyne), but even before the merger when I was a senior looking into MSU, all I would hear about is Bridger and Big Sky, and now that I'm a student here it's still all I hear. I have found a small Moonlight crew and I'm glad I scooped up a cheap ML pass so I can experience one season of them before Boyne does who knows what. Moonlight to me seems like the best combo of park/pow near Bozeman.

hate to break it to ya, but as far as operations go, they're big sky. the only thing that makes them still moonlight is the fact that some people still have a pass for just that mountain. but parks, lifts, grooming, patrol etc. will all be operated by big sky/boyne.

Got accepted and 98% sure I will be attending next fall.  Thinking about studying Computer Science.  If your looking for a roommate pm me or whatever.  Im stuck between bridger and moonlight.  Bridger seems so close to where you could go anyday w/ free bus fare.  Moonlight is further away but actually has a decent park (from what I've heard).  I would be going with big sky but I'm not about to drop 1k on a pass each year. Not happening.

Moonlight does still exist, it is now owned by Big Sky.  It's still called Moonlight Basin, look on BigSky's website.  Season pass-wise there are still 2 separate passes for the 2 resorts and Moonlight is a hellofa lot cheaper.

I work at Big Sky, I guarantee I know more about the merger than you do. After this season you will no longer be able to purchase a ticket for either resort and Moonlight will no longer be called Moonlight. Even now, all the mountain operations at both ski areas are run by Big Sky. Lift ops, park crew, grooming, ski patrol, all that shit is all Big Sky, even if its on Moonlight terrain. The only reason they're still somewhat separate at this point is because lots of people bought passes before the merger happened this summer and they didn't want to fuck them all over.

And I called you sweetie because based on what you've posted you haven't read jack shit of what anyone else has posted in this thread. Believe it or not, there are people here who know more about the merger status than some kid who "looked at Big Sky's website"

To all of those excited that they got accepted here,the acceptance rate is 98%. That also explains why the dorms are overpopulated to an insane degree. Roskie legally has to be torn down in the next two years, and they're still upping the number of new students they accept every year then force them to live in the crumbling dorms they have now. More money has been spent on facilities improvements, signs, new logos, and new ed buildings, than on improving the living situations and the money that actually goes to educating students. On top of that they will fuck you over a technicality when it comes to residency or getting money back when you get so sick you have to drop out.

With my hatred of the administration vented...

I love this school. Better teachers and classes than other state universities, good sports, amazing location. I have had a blast here and the only real downsides have been dealing with the administration and the lack of rental housing in the area due to the admin letting in more and more students in every year with no consideration for their living situations.

well i know your a student there but seeing that you say 98 percent get accepted, false. It is 57.6 %. I am curious about the dorm situation you have stated. I haven't seen or read anything about roskie needing to be torn down and your the only one ive heard hate on the living situation.

they've been having to put students in overflow every year for the last 2 years, which means putting kids in study lounges and other random rooms in the building. All of roskie's pods are falling away from the center column, go drop a ball in the middle or ask anyone who lives in there (like I did 2 years ago) and they can confirm. The 98% rate is for all students, you're probably thinking an individual college unless you can find the stats to prove me wrong cause that's what it was when I came and they've only let more people in. Trust me, almost anyone can get into liberal studies or university studies. Like the dorms are fun to live in, but they're decrepit and there aren't enough of them.

Hey I just graduated from MSU last week, here is my 6 &1/2 year perspective (took two years off in the middle). Quite a bit has changed.

For starters, MSU is far more crowded than when I started. Faculty, Facilities, and resources as stretched very thin in some of the programs simply because the administration is too stingy to expand faculty and facilities. Most of them are still great programs, but depending on how the next few years play out that could change dramatically (especially the Engineering program).

As far as Bozeman goes, its really hard to find a good place to live. If you ever do, find good roommates and keep it all 4-9 years you are going to school, don't expect to be able to find a better/closer place.

As far as the skiing goes, please please please be very careful when thinking about going BC riding. It takes 3 hands to count all the people I have known over the years who have lost their lives to avalanches.

I am currently skiing at Bridger, Moonlight & Big Sky, and each one has its own perks. Moonlight has the fewest people, and I doubt that will change with the merger. It has great terrain, and arguably the best snow around (north facing high elevation). Moonlight also usually has the best park, not sure how that will change with the merger, but chances are it will still be rad.

Big Sky has all the terrain you could ever want, except maybe steep glades(it has a few). Alaskan style faces, chutes, and cliff bands, a good park, pillow lines, and tons of open space.

Bridger is a great midweek mountain. If you have a day or two off during school, that is the place to be, but it is expensive once you are older than 18. The ridge terrain is great, but DONT TAKE IT LIGHTLY. Its still backcountry, and people still get hurt/die on the ridge. So again, know what you are doing, and know that who you are with knows what they are doing.

The dorms aren't that bad.  Skiing is great.  Weed is prescribed by a doctor.  But unfortunately everyone is going to hell.  Only one mormon church in the whole town.  Best go to Utah, just to be safe.

Tru but they are significantly more pricey than past years. I wouldn't blow that much money on a limited amount of terrain, if it was cheaper maybe. As far as parks go, zero gravity at moonlight is sick however once it gets established not much changes. Most of park crew's builds are focused on swifty park because it gets more visibility from the guests and more traffic. Eventually (maybe this coming summer) swifty park will be widened and become the main park on the mtn and zero grav will be no more. I guess what I'm getting at here is if you plan on getting a non bridger pass go for the biggest skiing in america pass over just moonlight.

What do you mean by changed? I've been here for a few years and I personally haven't noticed anything that's different. Maybe a few more people on campus, but that's about it. I came from Pennsylvania and it is night and day different here. If you love outdoorsy things, you literally have limitless possibilities about what you can do.

I'm in the Computer Science, so I can't say anything about the business school, but I have no real complaints about the school. College is really just what you make out of it. If you're debating between like MSU and CU Boulder just because Boulder is a better school don't. It's all about who you get to know and how hard you try. I have met many people and have had just as many job opportunities as someone who went to a better school.

That's just my $.02
