Jib skis with race base?

Hi,

as our indoor arena has 2+ year old greasy, dirty and bonded snow, every bit helps. Looking for jib (ultra soft) skis with uber fast base. Simple sintered is not enough, need better sintered.

Your problem lies within your requirements, generally soft skis don't have fast bases, and generally skis with fast bases are stiff. This is because most people who want a soft ski don't need to go mach loony on them, especially since the faster you go the more chatter you'll get, so putting a race base on a noodle just doesn't make sense. Where as the people who want a race base on a park ski are hitting big jumps and want a stiff ski for that. That being said, your best bets are the Scott Tom Wallisch Jib and the ON3P Filthy Rich. The TW Jib isn't as soft as you're looking for, but it's probably the softest one with a race base that I can think of. The FR doesn't have a traditional race base, but their bases are still really fast (they're certainly faster than other non-race sintered bases), and they'll be softer than the TW Jib (still, not a noodle, but plenty butterable). Also, keep in mind, these kinds of bases are much more high maintenance than others, you'll need to wax them about once every 5 days on them or so in order to keep them fast and not beat up.

Older versions of the Armada Pipe Cleaner were really soft if you can find them, they had a race base.

I'm interested in soft rockered (wider) park skis with any sintered base (obvious choices Domain and TC but both are extruded). Would get Filthy Riches but they are too expensive to get to the UK.

Look at some Nordica's.  Look for ones that have the Graphite & Gallium Sintered bases.  ON3P uses Sintered DuraSurf from Crown Plastics on most if not all their skis.  Blizzard uses sintered bases on all their skis.  The key to speed is proper base preparation and lot's of brushing.  One needs to understand waxing science as well to get the full speed.  Base structure has a lot to do with it as well verses type of snow.  Good luck.

The Atomic Punx (all model years) and the Infamous both use P-Tex 7000 series bases. You won't find a faster base material outside of a World Cup lab.

I want to buy some atomic skis, i love that they use amazing bases on everything but 86mm as your widest jib ski? that isn't enough. If infamous were over 90 i'd already have bought a pair.

Are you looking for the ski to be all mnt too or more a pure park ski? At 85 the infamous is really stable but very playfull its a perfect size for park in my opinion. If your riding in the uk pure park skis will be much better then wider all mtn park skis.

i don't really ever ride in the UK, I'll probably split time between france and switzerland this winter. I've also just always liked wider skis. I have some K2 domains at the moment, I find them a little narrow I think 95-98 is probably perfect for me but there doesn't seem to be a ski with the profile and flex that I want. The new J-skis (J98) seem like the closest but it'll cost too much once i've shipped them and paid tax. Those are 120-98-117... good width underfoot without fat tips/tails adding weight, sounds perfect to me!

I am looking for JIB skis. Park skis are too stiff. My Ideal choice would be abangz with racebase. I wax my skis every time, prior skiing, letting it cool down at least 2 days. 1 ski day, then wax. Though, too lazy to put on base wax, then glide wax. THis would save my day, but too much hassle, as I only ski 1 day/week in the snow dome. 2 hrs and the wax is gone. The reason I want them fast skis for jib - 480meter long park, 4 rail/box sections in a row, then 2 kicker sections. When skis are slow in that greasy crap, I cant hit kickers, and have to skip.

SCOTT JIBS TW are fair choice, although I don't know if the tips are soft/wobbly enough for all the tip presses, and ollies. I don't need another stiff skis in the corner.

I have 3 pairs of skis laying in the corner - Puzzle tbt 176 - stiff; abangz 177 - flexy, but would like more flex; lib tech freeride NAS 188 - taking them out most, don't even know why - probably they have best bases of them I have, although those are stiff.

Will check the PUNX. And Filthy Ritches.

Hard or no choice. Thanks for replies everyone.

I think you want Atomic Infamous. Top quality sintered 'race' base, soft flex, 86mm underfoot and cheap.

Most park skis with race bases are pipe skis. As you can probably figure out, pipe skis are the opposite of soft. Not sure if there are any softer skis with race bases off the top of my head.

That website is incorrect. It uses the same p-tex 7000 base as all other atomic adult skis. Just put 'atomic infamous base material' into  google and a load of shops with correct descriptions will appear.

Deffinatly the older armada pipe cleaner they have a really fast base but it gets ripped up fast.

have you considered the line blend? its 100mm under foot so just over what you said. theyre soft, with rocker and a sintered base.

those are slow as shit. OP, if you want a good jib ski just look at a rossi like the S3, storm, sprayer, sickle. those would be good for you, if not then there are skis from nordica like the soul rider. do research and you will find something... kind of dissapointing to see this lazyness

I may be wrong but I think the Soul Riders have race bases. Those are pretty soft skis, good for jibbing.

I've actually just sold a pair that I rode some of last season. I didn't like them, though I can't put a finger on why. I think it was the flex pattern (fairly solid underfoot and then overcooked noodle in the tips/tails). I like the flex of my domains and in the past tcs/bacons/elizabeths more, soft but more even throughout the ski (sorry for threadjack OP, you want infamous, I want infamous + more rocker + 1cm more underfoot).

I'd like to see that info given to you from Atomic.  Good luck!  Skis.com for example lies.  They will tell you shit.  The maker might have a site that says it is extruded and skis.com will list it as sintered.  Atomic won't even answer an email question.  You get a reply saying they got your message and will get back to you as soon as possible, then you will never hear back if you ask about bases on other than a "race" ski.  If the maker does not say on THEIR OWN website, then be in serious doubt.

praxis piste jibs come with sintered bases, optional carbon lay up, and the option of soft, medium, medium/stiff, stiff flexs

I don't know if you are just talking out of your ass but they have a pretty damn thick sintered base, and I have found them to be pretty fast.

Atomic in my experience are very good in getting info across. At the start of te seasons they provide USB sticks full of all the info you could ever want. They have plenty of reps, usually diiferent for different sectors such as race and park ect. The people in the hea office are also really open to questions. They certainly are one of the brands which are the most open with info.

Today by chance got to test infamous. It's a bomb, i am buying a pair right now... Skis from space, impossibly fast, makes skis i have look like wooden sleds. Never been so stoked about somebodys skis in my life.

I am trying to get things changed over here in Euroland to include base information in the product spec in the catalog and website, but its a slow process- it sadly is a spec that most Europeans know absolutely nothing about, so it tends to not be spoken of.

But let me clarify for you: all of our adult skis (including Punx and Infamous) use a P-Tex 7000 series base. Some are clear, some are black but they are all 7000. The only skis that do not use this type of base are our Jr skis and ultra basic rental skis (which use simple extruded bases) and our real World Cup FIS product, which use something beyond my understanding and are very tight lipped about the specifics behind it.

We went with a special, hardened material for the 11/12 collection, and then in 12/13 we made them wider. For the 13/14 skis which are in stores now, we use the same updated edge material and width.

the armada alpha 1 has exactly what you want a race bass no swing wight and rocker. pretty quick but long turn radius
