An official pocket knife thread.

I'm looking to get one and I'm very interested in this one:

I like the idea of an assisted blade but is it really the way to go? I want something just to have around for any time I need to cut something. Boxes, etc.. Not looking for something too pricey. I like the design of a tanto blade but how does the functionality change with the tanto blade? Also with an assisted blade I know the spring wears out over time but are they replaceable. The safety of this one still works despite a worn down spring. What do you guys think? Here's a review I found:

benchmades are probably some of the nice knives, many of them are assisted opening as well, but they are expensive, if you want something cheeper you can get a CRKT they are also very nice and much cheaper.

Go for one with ball bearings rather than spring assisted.

Don't get an assisted open knife. Here's why:
1. Unless you go for a very well made one (Benchmade, and beyond), the mechanism will be sub-par

2. The amount of time AO saves is so negligible that you might as well get a single hand open and learn to deploy it quickly

Honestly, just get a standard folder with a finger flip tab on the back. Assisted open is not that great once you're over the novelty and it's far more prone to breaking.

have the usual collection of Swiss Army knives. always keep a simple one in my bag and proves its worth all the time.


also have this for hunting/in the bush. pretty classic. have nothing bad to say about it except handle gets a touch slippery when you have blood on it.

Got this and with the thumb hole it's almost as fast or as fast as a assisted opening knife. Love it. Easy to sharpen also!

I've got dozens of knifes, and my favorite is my assisted kershaw. If you want an assisted, go for a kershaw. One of the most solid knifes I've ever owned. Make sure to go for a U.S. made kershaw though. They aren't all US made. I have the scallion. You can pick it up for $30-$40

Get a spyderco pm2 or manix 2. Worth the money s30v steel is the way to go. Benchmade mini grips are nice too with 154cm steel. Cr13mov steel with the crkt's don't hold an edge worth dogshit but are easier to sharpen. Stay away from blades with serration if you want an easier time to sharpen./thread

I have a leatherman skeletool, and if you're looking for a dope knife that has a load of tools but is also easy to open with 1 hand, go for this one. Also if you break it within 25 years, no matter what you get a free replacement. Such a dope knife! Kinda heavy if you dont need stuff like a screwdriver and pliers.

I love my assisted kershaw as well, although my buddy fucked up the blade and the serration when he got drunk and tried to cut through metal wire with it

I own a spyderco native and a CR sabenza, and a drawer full of broken Gerber automatics.

Also a leatherman wave, which is still the best multitool out there.

I will second this.

Have two benchmade knives and are by far superior to anything else I own. next pick up with be the axis automatic.

OP the knife you posted looks cheap as fuck to me.

My only problem with it is the lack of use I get out of it

I carry it regularly buntil unless my life is in harm's way I don't think I'll ever risk getting it dirty

i had a Benchmade Osbourne 950 until someone walked off with it during a party. one of the more expensive items i've had taken so i was less than thrilled. it was a gift from a close friend; i could never justify throwing around quite that much money on a pocket knife i use primarily for breaking down boxes at work and other odd jobs.

this is the spyderco i replaced it with:



honestly it's not the Benchmade, but i would replace this knife 6 times for the cost of the Benchmade....and for cutting up boxes they both work remarkably similar.

ps-assisted knifes are dumb and like everyone mentioned, will eventually break.

stick with a kershaw knife they are very reliable and only about $40-$60
they dont have springs but it has a tab on the back and it opens so fast it feels like a spring
