If you browse craigslist and local buy/sell/trade groups on facebook you could get a really good complete freeride setup in good condition for under 130. If you really looked you could find a good starter setup for under 100. Just briefly looking at one of the B/S/T's I'm in I could put a pretty sick setup together for 105 (20 dollar wheels, 25 dollar trucks, 30 for the deck, call it another 30 for shipping/hardware/bearings if you don't already have that stuff.
I'm surprised people don't get mad at down hill mountain bikers, "because it's just a more expensive version" like holy fuck, you guys have completely irrelevant arguments as to why longboarding sucks so much.
You referring to the USA B/S/T? I have the cover photo for that /claim.
But yeah, on those facebook groups, there are $200 setups going for half that on a regular basis. The people saying that it's only for rich kids just want a reason to hate it just because it strays from what you consider to be "skateboarding" It's just different. In street skating, hard falls come from gnarly rails and huge gaps/other street shit. With longboarding, they come from hauling ass into a slide or bombing a hill at 45. They're on completely different ends of the "skateboarding" spectrum, and shouldn't be compared as much as they are.
