Beginners thread to Urban(?)

Hey guys, I'm hoping that if I progress enough and it snows enough this winter that I'll be able to start doing some urban. I haven't seen too much on it so I was thinking we could just start compiling some tips and stuff for it.
Some things I was wondering is how you guys prep takeoffs, landings, rails, concrete, wall rides..., what is in your "kit" for when you go sesh (shovels, # of people, camera eqiup...), best time for it, the legality of it and what to do if the cops show up, and if you guys do anything to your skis too(like the edges, bindings, brakes, din...)?

Don't use new skis.....


Building kickers - make a compact pile of snow, put some salt on it and leave it for about half an hour. Then might be a good time to work on a landing. Remember to chop the top of the kicker off so it doesn't fall apart.

I've never done urban, but I've built kickers. That said, it's probably quite a bit different building an urban kicker than a bc one.

Some stuff I missed - night is the best time usually if you're in the middle of a city. Doesn't matter in residential areas. However, you'd need lights to shoot at night, which means a generator and a car to carry all your kit.

You'd also need to grab a banshee (if you still can) or make a winch, I think logan Imlach has a good tut on building winches.

- Some kind of food. Cliffbars or nature valley or just something to snack on.
- Shovels forsure
-(depending on your situation) Pallets. They help setting up like you would not believe.
-Lights and extension cords
-Please for the love of god bring a film guy. I wanna see everybodys first urban session in this thread (or a new one. whatever.)
-Tow rope and/or banshee bungie (if possible. Otherwise expect to skate your heart out)

Urban is fun as hell. Just dont be an idiot about where you sesh and allways take down your setup afterwards. (dont want any fucking snowboarders to recycle/film your spot and not have to do any kind of work)

Ive only had one run in with cops.
We were hitting some features at a local skate park because it seemed like a generally better idea than some nice rail at a condo on the mountian. However, we were being incredibly dangerous and using some rope tied to my friends car and towing into a jump and gapping a fence into a quarterpipe tranny. We got off with a warning but Mr. Cop wasnt too happy.
