I finally bought myself what I consider to be a fkn sweet rod and a really nice reel this year and I've been loving it. SUCH a nice combo and I really enjoy using it. It was a little on the expensive side but what the hell, right? Well I find it always helps to find the most expensive, mind blowing shit out there and justify your purchase as being VASTLY more frugal.



Check this shit out. If you aren't aware of Megabass, they're a Japanese company that takes a katana-like approach to their rods and their prices certainly reflect that.


Do not adjust your screen, yes that rod is $879 haha



Want a baitcaster? No problem, that'll just be another $797




There are even several lines ABOVE these rods where you can fly to Japan and have a rod custom made for you and your exact hand, style and preferred balance. I don't even want to know how much those are.



Now yes I know saltwater setups are even more but I'm just saying... This shit is crazy! Post up pics of your dream setups or just sick components you've come across. I love seeing high end details and attention to minuscule components.

Once I'm outta college and have myself a nice job (hopefully this summer) I hope to have a fat stack of g-loomis rods with abu garcia revo sx? reels. Not quite 800 but still pricey nonetheless. Super nice rods though.

I'm also wanting to get into buying blanks and building my own rods. I think it would be awesome to have an arsenal of rods that you built yourself

G loomis and Dobyns are amazing but incredibly expensive too. Hell, NRXs are like $600-700 off the mass assembly rack! Shit's crazy.


I picked up a 13 Envy Black this year and it's fucking awesome. Had a lot of people tell me that the Envys are every bit the rod as a Dobyn Champion Extreme at less than half the price so I went for it. It's my first foray into nice rods and I can't say I'm disappointed. It really is amazing, everything from the lightness to the sensitivity and the handle is just so nice and well thought out. I feel like $200 is still a ton to spend for a stick, but I plan on having it for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time- that and after using it I really do see exactly where the money went. Now spending triple that on a Champ Extreme though... Not sure I'll ever make that jump haha



Those revos are burners though... 9:1 ratio! Fastest reel out there I believe but a price to match. If I end up getting a nicer baitcasting setup next season (The one I got this year is a spinning setup) I'll probably go with a 7'3" Envy and a Lew's Tourney MG @7:1.

I've looked at 13's rods before and they seem super nice. I have heard noting but good things about them so I may have to give one a try sometime.

Also, the only way I'll ever have my dream of an arsenal of g-loomis rods is if I start winning some tourneys and pick up sponsors or something haha... i can dream. But I may have one lined up for this year just to pay entry fees so we'll see where it goes.

I don't know if i'd ever get the 9:1 model... that is almost excessively fast I feel haha. I don't even know what i'd use it for besides burning spinnerbaits maybe. But ya they are pricey, but i'd rather spend more on a reel and a little less on a rod, having a nice ass reel makes all the difference in the world. I get a half chub whenever i'm using my revo s because its so smooth haha.

I've never even held a Lew's reel, don't know if they sell them around here really? But i've heard awesome things and a lot of people down south use them so i'm sure theyre super nice.

Oh and I finally got a chance to look at the megabass rods, holy shit! The ones you posted werent even the most expensive either! I just have one problem with them, they give you absolutely zero info on the rods besides length and power. If i'm buying a $1,000 rod I wanna know what kind of graphite is used, what the eyes are made out of etc. I'm sure they are really nice rods but are they $1000 nice? Or am I paying for the fancy hand specific wood handle and other aesthetics?

But there is no doubt those are the most bad ass looking rods i've ever seen haha

IMO there is no such thing haha... But if you're rich and love to fish, more power to you for filling your boat with works of art.

Badass is right though! Honestly people pay more for art that just sits there, this is art you fish with. In that capacity, I can see the money I guess but damn- that is a lot of money haha the kayak I want is cheaper.

Ya that's what I was thinking, you're more just paying for the aesthetic value.
