Fuck it... we can't come up with something... and hell we probably shouldn't.

So we're bringing you in on it - likely just like we should have from the beginning.

My vote is to simply have the topsheet be a gigantic full frontal shot of the most beautiful Llama you've ever seen. Bases say 'newschoolers' and that's it.

We have until Monday.

If you feel like designing the ski, then fucking go for it. If you feel like making suggestions then more power to you. If you just feel like commenting / voting - then please take part.

lets make the most fucked up cool thing ever.

i think i like cultrara's design the best. clean, not all photoshop-y, but still incorporating all the fun ns stuff.

Damn, Jon has some ROCKIN tits.

Even though I personally like this one best, cultraras is probably the most appealing in a realistic sense... same inside-joke appeal, but with a bit more tact.

Along the lines of what cobracommander said above: a former/current member of the armed forces is enjoying his leave from Afganistan on the mountain with his family, takes a chairlift ride with some punkass with tees to the knees and Osama on his skis... we might have a bit more than a minor parkrat problem on our hands, folks.

I think that is the point of newschoolers though. If we played it safe we'd just be a bunch of racers avoiding the snowboard park.
I could also see how it can be offensive BUT he is dead, if some armed forces member said something I'd just say, "I respect what you have done for our country and thank god we got that bastard". We aren't worshipping Osama here, I think looking thug would scare off more people.

that's like saying "The Washington Redskins name isn't offensive; it's not like I'M racist, their name just happens to connotate a racist term. I understand where Native Americans could feel offended, but if I was wearing their jersey and came across Chief Tomahawk, I'd say something totally relatable like 'Man I really love that Pocahontas movie! You guys are awesome!' and he would totally feel OK about it"

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way in the real world. Offended parties determine offense, not offenders.

Don't worry about making it look perfect, we just need the rough concept, sketch etc. to get the idea accross. Then I'll have a pro graphics guy turn it into a sick finished work of art after it's voted to the top. We'll just delay the release of the ski until this process is complete.

Maybe I don't understand printing on skis as well as anything else but 145 cm tall at 72 ppi seems a little small/ low quality when it is going to have to be resized. I'd at minimum do full size at 150, but maybe that is just my obsession with overly high quality graphics that no one seems to care about.

Dude, 300 dpi for big prints like that. Design full size, then scale for the web.

Can I be the first to say that the osama pros, while NS legend, are pretty offensive? Especially since when you just put a turban on a llama. Not to mention it does nothing to dispel the stereotype of skiing being a white dominated sport. Bring the downvotes

I think we talked about this on the phone and made the decision to do it before you made this post. ;)

But seriously though - J is right. This is way too serious of a decision and we need more structure to it. There are too many ideas to be arbitrarily decided, and as such we need more structure to our democracy.

As such, we shall take this to the contest system!

TWO SKIS ENTER, ONE SKI LEAVES! (check beyond thunderdome for reference)

Tomorrow the rules of the first ever Newschoolers democratically decided collab ski shall be put forth.

I agree 100%

I already plan on buying a pair of these skis as soon as they drop and the one thing I really really really don't want would be something incredibly offensive like that ruining the ski. This is our opportunity as a community to make something fucking cool and funny and unique. I get it that this community is all about crossing lines and "fuck everybody, this is the internet" but c'mon could we make something that's worth 450$ without it making us look like a bunch of shitheads?

Going off general consensus I will be submitting the second pair, even though I am personally a fan of the third. If I get some free time this week I might fix them up given that my drawing tablet comes in on wednesday. Super excited about this contest and about the skis in general!

Yeah its like an analogy for NS. Looks basic from the outside/top but once you see what's hidden on the bottom, you are just in a dumbfounded clusterfuck of awe and amazement.
