Goretex jackets wetting out

I have an active gore shell that has done well so far but need the DWR layer redone to keep the water beading up and the breathability open. With that being said I had purchased XTproofer and washed my garment following the instructions on the coat tag. After the wash I sprayed on the XTproofer following instructions and found in the end that the DWR has not be rebuffed "like new" and that it worn off again within a few weeks of light use.

Any tips on getting gore and the DWR "back to new"? The original DWR lasted a long ass time...

2 Layer right?

I've had quite a few 2L Gore Tex jackets that would become soaked on the exterior and just cold on the interior. I tried Nikwax and washing as much as possible to keep the "pores" clean but ultimately found that 3L jackets are far superior to their more cost effective 2L counterparts.

I've now owned at least 4, 3L Gore Tex (Performance, Softshell, and Pro Shell) shells, and have never had problems with the exterior getting soaked or as you put it "wetting out."

not saying this works but i have heard that if u chuck it in the dryer the pores get cleaned out or some something and the jacket wil be somewhat restored...

fact is....you will never have the same functionality as the factory DWR. It's just a sad fact.

This helps a lot.. Or hang it in a very warm place..
But 3 layer is the way to go..

Have you guys never reapplied DWR to your 3L jackets, or does it restore it better when you do?

For those with the 2L, any tips?

My jacket is a three season, active gore shell. Likely

I did. I do it once a year at least. I also have Gore-tex sailing gear, I wash those too.

First time I thought, this is no good. But if you put your gear in a dryer or hang it in a really warm place after you applied the DWR spray it should work just fine.. If it doesnt, maybe you should return it? I dont know the active shell, I only have pro shell stuff so I dont know if that works different.

This exactly in my case.

I have never applied any specific DWR spray or otherwise to any of my 3L jackets. I only use Nikwax Tech Wash and follow the instruction tags on the jackets, and haven't had any problems with the exterior fabric becoming soaked.

Honestly, Gore shouldn't even have 2L jackets/pants for snowsports. I have a backup jacket/pants made of 2L Gore Tex Performance fabric and I only use them on warmer days where they won't see any precipitation or moisture other than slushy snow or muddy parking lots.
