Is it just me or has every ski flick in the last 5 years (at least) been so fucking repetitive in terms of the athlete commentary? I realize that this conversation has come up many times before (I remember specifically after Revolver was released and everyone was bitching about it) but seriously, it has been getting to a ridiculous point.

What made me finally erupt in rant was while I was watching Sage's clip from their new flick "Way of Life"...There's Sage, again, talking about getting creative on terrain, wanting to surround himself with mountains for his entire life, and that's how we lives his life. We hear that shit in every single ski movie. Whether it be how they live their life, how fast park skiing is progressing, or some stupid/over done comedy theme (cough Sean Pettit/MSP humor cough), we need a fresh take on movies.

The only movies I have seen over the last couple of years that have steered away from this BS have been Stept and Field Productions. I'm sure there's other production companies out there that display either straight ski porn/banger flicks, or movies that just surround themselves with the vibe of good times.

It's funny because I was just thinking earlier today of how sick it would be for skiing to make it's own Art of Flight rendition. No, not Few Words (which was sick), but a lineup of 6-8 of the most badass skiers in the game and a movie that consists of straight banger shots and ridiculous cinematography. I would take that type of flick over what's going on in the ski movies right now anyday.

Don't get me wrong here, I still love watching them, and I have been enjoying movies over the last few years, but it's getting to a point where it's out of hand. We need to refresh this shit.

I agree on this for the most part, but some athletes do a have a pretty fresh perspective, but they aren't getting paid for their opinions, after all I want to see them charge a hard line and stomp a huge huck.

However, I'd argue that there are a few pros who have a good take on the environment and a fairly holistic point of view that does contribute to the movie's perspective. Point in case...All.I.Can.

They're portraying the athlete's personalities. What, do you want to hear some fake rendition of the athletes persona like it's some reality TV show? If you don't like Pettit being goofy, or if you don't like Sage being stoned talking about how that was his best line ever, then mute it and wait for the skiing to start again.

If you don't have any constructive criticism or ideas to improve it with, then all you're doing is complaining.

idk what the fuck you're talking about, TGR always puts out a good product. The skiing in Way of LIfe was better than any film I have seen this year (including Into the Mind on the raw skiing, not on the cinematography, which obviously was groundbreaking).

but then sweetgrass makes a good film that's super unconventional and people whine about how it's too out there and not edity enough. i find edit type films to be repeditive and i lose focus when there isn't a plot and when the films run over 30 minutes. but then again it depends on the film itself. some people are better story tellers, and some people should stop altogether. i'm personally a bit tired of everyone shooting off guns for no particular reason.

Really, there's only so many ways you can answer the questions that get asked every year on film. You can't really blame Sage for trying to explain how stoked he is on his lifestyle every year in a different way, and sounding the same to you.

Some things are really cliche, but it seems like its really not as bad as it was in like the late 2000's. The problem is, there is really only so much commentary involved in skiing. Theres not that many different things that these guys can say in the short amount of time they are talking, especially because the main point is to show some skiing. There are some movies every year that stand out as far as this goes, its just not usually more than one. All I Can, Claim, The Dream Factory, Into The MInd, Super Heros of stoke (It Counts) and pretty much everything sweetgrass has ever done are all movies from the past 5 years that don't really follow this pattern. Its super refreshing to see this stuff, so im sure companies will start having more original commentary in the future, but even if they dont ski movies will still be super entertaining, just like they always are.
