I must say this much, it looks pretty damn fantastic, and the price isn't all that bad. Kinda shitty that it's E-mount and not A-Mount but it does mean that a fairly affordable adapter will be able to utilize literally any old 35mm glass to it's fullest potential (including the old school A-mount, as apparently they have an adapter for that). Sony also drops the very 90's sounding "NEX" name with this camera.

On top of that, it looks fairly simple to use without a curmudgeon of buttons and shit that you find on modern day DSLRs, and costs about the same as a 6D or D600 for the base A7, which has a 24 mpx sensor, and 600 more for the A7R which has a 36 mpx sensor and a LPF.

And for you video guys, yes... it has a headphone jack, a flippy screen, and 1080p60 (1080p24 as well).

From what I can tell, it's a pretty damn cool step, and definitely something to consider as a slightly larger option to a m4/3rds or even NEX selection. The price is pretty fair at 1700 and 2300 for the R (which is pretty damn unnecessary) and overall it looks to be a really cool camera in a sweet looking package.

Battery life will probably be garbage with this camera, due to no optical viewfinder, but other than that, shit... this is looking mighty attractive.

The biggest reason I'm looking at this over the 6D is the 1080p60. Canon won't give that to you unless you take out a mortgage. The 6D will have far better battery life, though so that's certainly something to consider.

As for AF, fuck the AF. I'd probably never use AF on something like this. AF is only really something you need on an APS-C sensor camera like a T4i, where you can barely see what's in your viewfinder or if you're really into street shooting - in which case I'd be shooting film anyways for the more discreet camera. This camera is more 5D-like in that it's sorta loud and more made more for Landscape/Video work and such.

Oh, and also some random thoughts about this camer:

- Fuck yeah.
- Can't wait to see what Nikon and Canon will come up with. My hopes aren't high.
- In 2 years REAL quality in a small package will be affordable.
- Sony and Fuji are totally pushing in the right direction.
- Really fucking pretty.
- Apart from the battery life and lack of OVF, this camera is pretty much perfect.
- I won't be shooting with a DSLR within the next two years.

X-Pro1/OM-D and now this? Mirrorless is the future.

I have always felt as if mirrorless is going to be a big thing, but I still definitely believe that SLRs are going to have their place.

There are many people who are out there who have told me that "DSLR's are dead" or "going the way of the dodo" and all of that. I'm referring to that kinda BS in that statement.

Im selling like half my gear to get the A7R soon. Probably going to get rid of my 7D and be gone from canon for good, sell my nex5r, a 70-200, 18-200 and a flash.

This camera looks amazing and would work so well alongside my fs700.

Pretty sure hipsters just follow trends mindlessly trying to be different rather than wanting something for a logical reason.

But I can say with almost certainty that I will be buying this. Its sick that with this body by upgrading my film setup I would also be upgrading my sony setup.

I'm worried that if I jump onto this there will be something better coming out from another company too soon. But, probably not. Other companies are probably going to continue on their course while companies making innovative mirrorless cameras will continue on their own. I seriously doubt that canon/nikon will come out with a second lineup of FF lenses just to facilitate a FF mirrorless.

On a side note, does anybody remember before the EOS-M was released there was a guy who made canon 7-esque design plans for what the EOS M might look like? It would be sick if canon came out with a full frame cam with that styling.

Yeah I'm wondering about that too, personally, though there's no chance of me getting either, I'm a lot more interested in the nikon one, especially as it's rumoured to have an OVF and F mount.

Sonys will do fine considering they are the only other competitor to the not-yet-released Nikon DF.

They will have a pretty distinct advantage in that they can take any old glass, whereas the DF will probably be only able to take Nikon stuff (not that that's bad, it's just more affordable options with the Sony)

The OVF that the DF is supposed to have sounds sexy as hell too.

no the reason why this is better is because mirrorless cameras and rangefinders are 100% always sharper than any mirrored camera.

Sounds like it meters like my 1Ds... I overexpose by a third to a full stop depending, simply because of how that thing meters.

UWA purple cast and vignetting happens on every digital sensor including m9/240 does it not, Leicas can just correct for it?
