I wasn't speaking in that way, I am saying that it could be more. Maybe this "mind blowing" information could be considered far more common place if the spending was even the smallest bit larger.

I rather be fostering a love and appreciation for space, then paying into a SS I will never see, better?

Chill inducing. For anyone who liked the 3d model of it, I urge you to check out space engine. It is a free program modeling the universe, letting you zoom around anywhere from meters/second all the way to gigaparsecs. Really an incredible thing, especially for free.

Sorry for the double post, but you shouldn't speak so soon either. While Hubble was not built due to a great deal of Private funding, James Webb will be– along with many of the ongoing project's at JPL.

Which, one way or another, is all because Hubble was so over budget. Had Hubble's cost been comprised of more Private spending, maybe we would be looking at a different NASA rather than close to nothing at all.

A space telescope is appealing to private industry In the same way Lockheed Martin found Juno appealing. You think they have any profit to gain from New Frontiers? Juno's mission is to the gravitational and magnetic fields of Jupiter.

What do they gain then, Pudge? Well, I am glad you asked!

If the Lockheed Martin wasn't as thoroughly established as they are, here is an opportunity to prove their efforts towards worldwide interested in aerospace and defense.

But Pudge, Lockheed Martin is public traded! Uh oh gang, we are getting that nit picky?

Then I ask, how is the case different if they were private? Would a smaller, aerospace industry in its infancy not want to establish their place is the cosmos (pun intended). There is profit to be made. Even when you are sending a few billion dollar HAM radio around the solar system a few times

I don't know man...I'm not talking about Christianity and I certainly don't think we are the only planet with life etc, but I think our universe was created...

I reckon our universe is a science project for some student in some other parallel universe where the technology and beings are so advanced that they are all masters of time and space, and they could create infinitely large and infinitely small things like our universe...and then they did. They didn't make humans, but they probably tried to make conditions that would support life as much as possible (there is definitely other life in our universe IMO...) and are probably pretty entertained by us as well.

I'm both serious and not serious. I completely believe that my above post could be correct, I just don't think it's very likely....With what we have learned about quantum physics it is apparent that we literally know nothing. Every theory you hear is an adequate description of what could be real. There is no proof of anything. We sort of are pretty sure it all started with a big bang, which in my mind points to a creator because we were all in a very small (infinitely small) very tightly compacted point then suddenly *BOOM* big bang, and we are constantly expanding, making our universe infinitely large.

Have you ever heard of the double slit experiment? Well, using the double slit experiment as evidence I could say Toy Story (yeah the movie) *could* be based off of reality. We don't even know what is going on in our world when we get down small enough. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it still make noise?

I mean we have observed electrons being in two places at once, going through matter, possibly moving through time...I mean it really is straight ridiculous what we are beginning to learn. I mean here is why I think it could be feasible that our entire universe is some beings toy/pet/science project/whatever is just because if humans could make an entire universe (say from shooting two super small particles at each other or something) don't you think we would? We play god when we are creating life in a petri dish and studying stem cells ect, when we actually do learn how to create massively large ecosystems don't you think we will and just hope and wait for evolution to take place? Who knows...I just think its an idea, and I think people who are blatantly against religion etc are no better than people who fully believe in Adam and Eve against evolution etc.

I don't like religion because it gets in the way of my spirituality but that is a whole different topic so yeah...

Not even sure if it's worth it, this is what troubled me the most. I'm disappointed people think like this. It's almost as if you watched one YouTube video, and all the sudden claims like this must be true. If you must stay within YouTube, I suggest more Numberphiles, and less Vice. Far less of the wrong drugs as well.

How about Down the Rabbit Hole? That is the video that made me think adopt this way of thinking...obviously we know a lot. We know incredible amounts of stuff, but I think wise people learn throughout their lives that they just really don't know much. I would say the same thing about species, ie, the more you learn, the more you realize you don't know. Yeah we know heaps of stuff about how our universe works and the physical properties of it and we know amazing thing about the life on our planet and how it works/came to be etc it is all amazing. But we still don't really know anything. In the grand scheme of things. Humans haven't been around long enough to even know what the real questions are yet, let alone finding all the answers.

I mean like isn't that sort of what this thread is about...We pointed a telescope we thought had nothing in it and were astonished to see what we saw...The more you learn the more you realize you don't know.
