that is reasonably priced, (tokina 11-16, tamron 17-50) excluding primes.

if you wanted to just go ahead and say the tokina 11-16 you could have just said it in your OP
"Sharpest" depends on a lot of factors anyways, this thread is pretty dumb

What camera do you shoot with? And sharpness is just one part of getting a sharp image. The contax zeiss 35-70 f3.4 is amazingly sharp, but focal length and focus type (it is mf) play a huge part and are somewhat dependent on the type of shooting that you do. Assuming you have a canon crop sensor like 90% of this site, tokina 11-16 has gotten nothing but praise here. Canon 70-200 f4l is supposed to be damn good. I love the 70-200 f2.8l, but it is a bit more expensive. The sigma 18-35 f1.8 has gotten great reviews so far. Those are most of the standout AF zooms for canon crop sensors, I'm sure there are others, but those are some of the most popular ones. If you provide more details though, it would make it much easier to suggest lenses, or perhaps something else entirely (like changing your PP workflow).
