Drop Out of High School at 16 and move to Summit County

So i want to drop out of high school when im 16 and move out to summit county wit hone of my buddies who is 22 and has a full time job and said he is completly down with helping me... should i or shouldnt i? i dont care what you say actually its gonna happen

I really don't like the fact that everyone is just battering this kid with "fuck you!'s". If someone could link the long post that someone had in a similar thread that detailed what it actually entailed to be a ski bum, that'd be sick. (it might have been mr. bishop, or some other mod)

On the real though, you guys don't actually know what this kid is going through. Yes, he might be (and likely is, no offense OP, just stereotyping NSers) a spoiled shit who takes himself too seriously in high school and whose parents won't buy him next year's JJs. However, this might not be the case.

Take a good look at where you would actually be in 10 years. I'm not saying that there aren't people who make the ski bum thing work; there are. But you are seriously limiting your options by not graduating high school.

Now considering that you said that you would go and finish school there--that sounds like a better plan. Unless your family life at home is supremely fucked up though, realize the comforts that having parental support provides. There are a lot of hidden costs in living--especially for a skier. Also 2 more years of high school (if it is going at least halfway decently) is a tiny amount of your remaining life.

In the end, its your life, just try not to make the same mistakes that many have made.

^^Finally, to add on to that.

All of the kids I knew in high school who went away from home for part of high school ended up as fuck ups. Either lots of drugs or girls turning into huge sluts and becoming alcoholics.

Your 16. Why spend fun years of your life 16-22 or so doing shitty stuff? Move to CO and let things work themselves out you have time until you are an adult.

yea! you should spend the fun years of your life doing the fun stuff.

The fun stuff like...paying bills, working full time or at least trying to get a job, trying to keep a roof over your head and meals on your table.


or you could do the boring stupid stuff like going to school, hanging out with your friends, making money at your own convenience, skiing, and having minimal responsibility.

You've been in high school for a little over a month, change what people expect you to be, you have 4 years to fix it. Plus, a diploma from Forest Hills, especially Central, will get you into anywhere. Theres no point in fucking that one up. Yes, your family situation is fucked up the ass, more than anyone should have to deal with, but staying in MI will help you fix it.

I don't know what you are going through at all, but being 16 you don't really know what you will go through living on your own. First this 22 year old friend, I am guessing he is a family friend or is he some dude you know from your hometown? Did he finish highschool? What is the job he has and has he been able to keep jobs? Why I ask,  is because he is going to support you he needs money for rent, food, lift tickets (which should be the last thing on your list), spending money, gas for a car, and utilities. If you are planning on getting a job then you need to at least make enough to pay half those things above.

Second- you asked if there is schools out there, I know the legal age for dropping out of school is 16 but I don't think you are considered an adult till your 18. And your friend is not a legally guardian. So, before you think it is as easy as just going to a highschool out there find you what you need to do to get into one. I am going to bet they wont just have a 16 year old sign up for highschool, without a parent present and a reson why you are living with a 22 year old.

Third- do you have enough money saved to move out there. Travel cost are huge, you need food, gas, extra in case the car or truck shits the bed on the way out.

Fourth- I am not for sure of your family situation, from your post it sounds shitty. Really try to think why is it shitty, are you being abused, is it because you rents don't give a fuck about you, is it because they won't let you do what you want. If you go with out there premission next thing that is going to happen is they are going to call the cops and you are going to be found the next state over and shipped back home. You 22 year old buddy may get hit with charges. If i is shitty because you are being abused then go to cops or something like that. Don't stand for that.

Lastly- everyone dreams of being a ski bum ski every day work at night... this doesn't work for a 16 year old kid. You have a limit amount of places you can work.  Plus you won't have enough time to ski, work and go to school. If you work part time 20 hours a week and go to school for 30 hours a week when do you think you are going to school. Not after school, weekends are going to be shot because you are working. Remember, you are going to have to make enough money to support half of you. Also, what happens when your 22 year old friend says i can' support you anymore. I know right now you don't think that is going to happen but it will it always does.

I am not telling you what to do but the real world is much different then highschool and living with a family. But in the end of it all you are going to do what you want to do. Good luck!

Theres only been a few actual legit answers that have some what common sense in them besides everyone saying a lot of bullshit and hate.. Maybe if all the people give a good reason and tell me i don't have a way in the ski industry seeing as i have a full time job right now and multiple connections with ski comapnies that support me on the skiing sides of things, aka tossing me cheap cheap gear when im in need, ski gear isnt a problem at all. Living and finding a school is my concern, yes my friend graduated both college and high school and yes has a full time job making enough to easlily support myself, hisself and have fun with no scarce of money. He has multiple jobs lined up for out there and has a few different living areas in mind which will be no problem for him becuase he will be splitting it with another friend. But thank you to the people that actually give me solid reasons on what to do and not to do. Especially MRoden, because he knows me and knows the shit that goes on.

Actually im not a stoner ski bum at all, i think weed is fucking retarded and fucks you up. Yea my teachers actaully do hate me but i honestly dont care because theyre the ones that have to dred seeing me everyday and i wanna move somewhere and have a clean start
