So my boys and I want to take a road trip to colorado the week of the 16th of december. Its about a 23 hour driver for us we would stay till Christmas Eve. The thing is we dont want to hit park because thats all we do at home. We want to ski side country, cliffs, bowls and backcountry. Idk if its worth it to drive out there that early in the season to ski powder.
Spark notes: 23hour drive, early season pow yes or no
go to durango or telluride if you're looking for teh powdurzz... never any guarantees but you'll have a better chance of catching a storm than anywhere in/around summit co.
if you can rent sleds CB would be pretty rad. some great sled in access in the elks. front range is not the best bet that early, though you could probably make it work if you have to, just seems like somewhere west would be the way to go if colorado's the plan...have you considered jackson
Aspen also can be a good powder bet if you wanna stay near summit county - i definitely wouldnt expect anything though. Colorado can be pretty off and on when it comes to good snow.
