Which college do you go to?

I thought I'd make a thread where people say which college they go to and what they like about it so there can be less "what college" threads. Plus half the info about one specific college in those threads is from people who don't even go to that school, or aren't even in college yet. So, what college do you go to, and give some other random info about it. (I'm guessing people mostly want to know what your grades have to be like to get in, how's the skiing, big or small school etc)

And I wouldn't get so sure about getting into one of those either....it's pretty much a shit-show based on luck when you have 35,000 people applying and less than 2,000 spots to fill. They are worth going for just cause, what's to lose? But don't be one of those "I wanna go to an Ivy" fuckers.

I would say that 95% of people who apply to ivy leagues (including this kid probably) are one of those fuckers. Seniors in high school wear the schools they apply to like a badge of honor now. Also as you said, all of those schools are next to impossible to get into. I had a friend with near perfect SAT and 35 on his ACT get rejected from harvard.

Whats wrong with working hard in high school and getting into a good college as a result? For all those kids who went the extra mile in high school taking AP's and getting the A instead of settling for a B, they deserve to be rewarded. You should be proud if you go to a good school because you worked hard to get there. Yeah some of it is a matter of chance, but for the most part you had to work your ass off to even be considered.

For Montana fuck yea I think it's expensive. I'm not comparing it to fucking seattle or something, but it's the most expensive place to live in the state. Plus since the student population went up and rental units in the town went down, which makes it a lot harder to find these legendary cheap as fuck places.

I should clarify, I did all of that. I had a 4.0, got 5's on most AP tests, and scored well on SAT and ACT. I could have gone to a few of those schools he listed pretty easily. However, I came to the realization that the status symbol that's associated with attending a top-tier university for your undergraduate is not worth putting yourself and your family into a great hole of debt. People treat getting into a pristine college as a way by which they can judge others. I sure as hell got judged for attending MSU instead of going to Berkley or UW. There are a lot of factors that come into play when choosing a school and people who have the money to go to a good school often claim the identity of "the best students" when in actuality they just have the family who can pay for it. The US education system has gotten to a point where the grades you get matter far less than the money that your parents can front you both for the bill and for donations to the school.

its harder to find a cheap place in missoula sweetie. guess what. ITS A COLLEGE TOWN. naturally, renters are going to try to capitalize on that if they know they have a desirable property. Duh, some fucking shithole like Butte will have cheaper rent, but in Bozeman, you're paying a perfectly reasonable price for what you get. In CO people could never find houses like we do for the price we do, or in any other state I can think of. The 3 years I've been living off campus in boze and big sky, I have never paid over $400 per month for rent. and if you think that is pricey, you have some serious waking up to do. welcome to the real world, its a fickle bitch

dude, if you got every single question right during your high school career, you still wouldn't go to harvard, thats how hard it is. to get into harvard you have to have incredible test scores, extracurriculars, charity work and be asian, is aint easy

I live in a college town and I have never paid over 250/month for rent. And I have lived in decent houses too, no dumps.

honestly, that's impressive. All the college towns I've been town average between $300 and $400 a month for rent unless you put more people in the house than it was advertised for. Granted, in most houses its not that hard to put 4 people in a 3 br, and that will drastically cut back on your rent cost

Its 400+ if you wanna live a block or two from campus. But we have just lived about 4 blocks away every year and pay almost half of what my friends pay but are still walking distance. It's pretty nice

Fuck Y'all. In Burlington youre lucky if you can find a place walking distance for under 600 that isnt a dump. Were sticking 6 people in a 5 bed room and its still running us 634 a month w/o electricity or internet services. Many of my friends are paying around the same as well. Cheapest I have heard that is walking distance (who wants to drive in Burly or pay $180 a semester for a parking pass) is 575.

Thats super cheap. Im living in the dorms and im paying almost 8000 for this year.. thas almost 1000 a month. Next year we'll have 4 people living in an apartment and its still 600 per month for one person.

Yea. I'm at  $550 right now in a two bedroom. Add in utilities and you're just under $800 a month, which yea for other states might be amazing. My point was for MT though not CO or anywhere else. Duh it's going to be more expensive in states like CO for a ton of reasons. Cali's rent is gonna be a lot higher than MT as well but that wasn't ever my point.

About half way through last season we completely redid the park and it was actually pretty fun. Even without that the vibe and people there are always awesome.

Well then I will definitely hit up the park this year more often. I just went like early December maybe? And the park was super sketchy and the mini park was filled with 2 foot rails and boxes. fun place to dick around on though. Ill probably see you there this year then.

Oregon State. Hood is about 2.5 hrs away and Bachelor is about 3. Mary's Peak hiking is 25-30 min away.

I go to the University of Iowa. Senior this year. I really enjoy it, couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I'll just leave this here. First video is a good representation of the bar scene every weekend, but the second video shows more of the tailgate life.

University of Portland! The academics are decent, there aren't too many parties, but you can find them if you try. School isn't 420 friendly, but you can still find ways of going about your business. And skiing wise, Mt. Hood is like 1-2 hours away. Not a bad school, would recommend.

Yeah, in Iowa City basically the cheapest places you can find WAY off campus are 400/person every month. Decent apartments are 550-600 a month, and higher end places are 750-850 per month. I don't really know about houses, but I'd never get a house because I've been in enough to know they're all really shitty around a college town.
