I don't know much as far as early season skiing goes (October-November), I know wild went crazy and opened on the 7th of October, but who has a relatively consistent preseason with a fun setup?
I heard about the rail jam last weekend on oct 6, but that was gnarly as hell, if you don't grease the rail you die. I'm really wondering who usually opens with a park first and about what time? Obviously it all depends on the weather. I'd like to get a rough estimate.
Thanks
First I would say is normally Tyrol Basin or Welch (Tyrol because they are serious about giving us the most ski time, and Welch because for some reason they seem to get snow the earliest.)
as for Wild, what the fuck, they opened already??!?!?!
Tyrol Basin is the most consistent as far as opening around the same time every year and having a sick little setup to shred for every weekend and some weeknights until season starts.
Tyrols goal is to have the first chair (terrain park chair) running by halloween, has happened in recent years but i dont know if it happened last year or the year before.
I was at MN ski and snowboard expo at the mall yesterday and there was a slideshow on a big screen going on.... wild mountain popped up and i'm 85% sure I saw "7 days until open"! This saturday, it shall be popping.
I could see it happening. All they need is one night of snow making to open the bunny and express way. If it drys out this week they will be open for sure.
