Taking tricks to the airbag +K

Hi NS So this past summer I have learned a lot of new tricks on the trampoline (cork 7, misty 7,backflip erc.) and this past year my local reasort got an airbag and I want to take the tricks I learned on the trampoline and learn them on skis on the airbag. And I was wondering, how different is it doing tricks on the airbag than it is on the trampoline ? Can you screw yourself up if you land weird? Is it a lot harder to land? +k to good answers

if you want my $.02 ..
fuck airbags.
you get a headache from them caus eits so hard to not have your head whip on them when you land switch,
when you land forward you like frontflip instantly.
and i overshot one once and fell off it head first.
woke up in the hospital with 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung.
in my book they are a big nono.
but some people like them...

I had a ehhh exsperience as well, my local mountain got an airbag but the take off was a quater pipe (it was straight up )and extreamly unrealistic and difficult to do tricks so i just called it a day and went to the jump line

you can ride away from a proper airbag setup...

its really not that big of a deal when you fuck up, as long as you dont land straight on your head or over/undershoot ...

which, shouldn't be too hard... (no offense ^ )


and as for tricks, just commit and throw them like on the tramp, just a lil bit harder (depending on how much kick the jump has)

back, front, lincoln, misty 5, etc i all landed first try after doing them on tramps...

I was wondering this too. A mountain ~3hrs away from me has onr but I don't wanna drive an extra 2 hrs from my nearest mountain just for an airbag

If you can get water on the bag, that'll help you to not stick to it as much, otherwise just wear long sleeve clothes so when you scrape against the bag it doesn't hurt. Be fully committed. This isn't a trampoline, there can be somewhat mild consequences. Other than that, go for it man.

Honestly, if you have it on the tramp then go ahead and take it to snow. I don't know why people think that learning a trick is a fucking 12 step program where you have to learn it on tramps, airbags, and water ramps before you can take it to snow. Just go out there and send it. If you can do it on a tramp, you'll be fine.

It's all about the mentality. Whiteface has an airbag I'll be taking advantage of. I feel like some of you guys on here saying "Just send it on a real jump!" don't realize that some kids (including me) have other sports they do. Skiing is amazing and incredibly fun but be aware that there are people out there who just shred for fun and don't care about how good they are (again like me). This is just my opinion of course, but I think airbags are fucking awesome and I'm all for them. I'll hopefully being hucking all types of things on them this year.

Airbags are only worth it if you're trying doubles, and even then they have to be set up well or else you can't do anything at all really. If you still want to hit it, just pretend that you're trying the trick for the first time straight to snow, so that you set up to land on your feet.

airbags are shit. all they do is fuck up my skis and chip them when i land and they hit each other. also if you dont land in the middle you will slide off the side and get fucked. just try it straight onto snow, especially cork7s because all you do is slightly dip your vision and you shouldnt land on your head or anything

i learned backflips and corks on an airbag before on a tramp, i think its easier on an airbag

Yeah I'm not a fan of airbags but they are a safer option than the hard landings of east coast and Midwest jumps. My advice would be to either just send it on the airbag knowing that its softer than snow, or hope for a huge snowstorm or travel north and build a powder jump. At my cabin in northen Minnesota I build a pow jump into like 3-4ft of soft stuff. Even though I landed bad it didn't hurt at all.

as you can see from these responses, it all depends on the particular airbag

personally ive only hit one and although the jump itself was lame, the airbag was great. you could literally not hurt yourself on it.. i saw tons of people land on their neck, doubled over, etc etc and not get hurt at all. and if you stomped hard enough you could ride out the back

but obv some aren't as good

but in general they're great, and obv are a thousand times more like skiing than a tramp. tramps are great for getting used to rotations and working on your air sense, but they are very different from hitting a jump with forward momentum and with the weight of skis and boots on your feet so airbags are way more helpful IMO

def hit one up if you can, and if it's sketchy just be careful. that should go without saying though no matter what. i mean shit, i'd rather do any trick on an airbag than on a tramp, tramps are sketchy!

I don't think there's a huge risk to an airbag and you'll probably be fine if you say you've got the motion/maneuver down in the air/on a trampoline

I just tried my first airbag yesterday and it was great. I just did straight air my first jump to get a feel for the bag and I double ejected forward but didn't feel a thing. I then went on to 360s and 540s with no pain. The only downside is that it chipped up my skis but my topsheet is already bad so I didn't really mind it. My park's jumps are solid ice so it was nice to try new tricks out on the airbag.

just take it to snow, theres too much room for errors on the airbag which could give you a bad habit

If your comfortable on jumps just huck it, if you got good air awareness, even if you bail you'll be fine, so don't worry bout it. But if your not so confident then you got nothing to loose on the airbag, their super safe and really good for learning tricks without fear of injury. Personally I learned all my tricks straight to snow, with the exception of cork 7's, as I ate shit a few times to snow and didn't want to risk injury so I hit up the airbag just to figure out what I was doing wrong and to get my technique down. So it is useful but not necessary to learn tricks.

My mountain had an airbag once until my buddy popped a hole in it somehow. But airbags feel like your landing in clouds it does not hurt at all, granted this 5 years ago and all I did was a front flip and misty, the assholes didn't even let us backie for some reason. If you have a friend that can do those tricks seek help from him but if you're the best out of your squad then just huck your meat.
