The key to becoming part of level1's crew

Be an honorable mention/semi-finalist in the superunknown contest. While this might seem silly at first, LSM was an honorable mention and Nick Miles, who didnt win the contest and much less was not even a finalist, ended up getting more shots in the actual movie than any of the finalists and even more than the winner himself. No hate whatsoever, he deserved it because he murdered. That backflip gave me goosebumps. However, I just thought Level 1's habit of shelving over talented skiers in an honorable mention/semi finalist category then pulling them up is a little strange. Is it possibly not a coincidence that it happened twice? Should we expect a future Level 1 athlete from all semi finalist videos to come?

P.S.- on a slightly related note, I would like to also bring some attention to Magnus for that one footed britney post credits. I havent heard any one mention that, I thought that shot was fucked.

The key to becoming part of any production companies roster is having the production company know you exist, know your skiing, and know your style and like it. Super Unknown allows Level 1 (and everyone else) learn about all of these skiers that might otherwise be under the radar. So it's really no surprise that people who entered Superunknown and didn't win end up in the films.

When making a movie, everything is subject to change. There are so many things that go wrong, change, or just happen differently than anticipated.

i just feel like there are so many repeat offenders in the finalist category (like Austin Torvinen) i just find it kind of ironic that the guy who one year makes one semi finalist video is added to the crew and kids like Austin Torvinen who made finalist year after year didn't make it. Clearly they are doing things right because the movies are tight, I just find it funny the way they pick the crew

Really right now I think all the ski movie production companies are looking for creativity. It's no longer who can double, or do sick tech stuff because soo many people have reached that level. I feel like skiers like from the real skifi are the future of our sport because they bring so much creativity in. Anyway, that's just my $.02

Im sure level 1 considered austin many times. But level 1 seems to choose legit 'unknowns' for their contests, and then picks up guys that do a lot of filming with the guys in the crew anyway. It makes sense to add Cheddar to the crew cause he is good friends with wallisch and they seem to like hitting urban together. I feel like the same goes for LJ and wesson

i mean it just feels like we shouldnt even watch the finalists videos anymore because the semi finalists are going to be the ones that end of skiing for level 1

Your focusing your attention purely on Superunknown. But are you really telling me you live in the fantasy land where sponsors don't have to pay up?

And if it was so much more than making a movie, then why bother with the movie.....it's all about making a movie idiot. Level 1 is a business. No product..No business.

When it comes down to it, if a production company really wants to film a skier and a skier wants to film with a production company, it will happen.

If it's preseason and level 1 decides they want to get a lot of shots of skier X, yeah get as many of his sponsors on board as possible. You're right, it is a business.

However, if it's midseason, don't expect them to call up the guys at Saga or Line or any sponsor and ask them who the next guy on the depth chart is to go on a trip. That stuff has already been figured out. If some guy was supposed to be on a trip, he'd already be on it. What the production company needs to make the trip to happen is already there. If it's midseason, everything is already planned, more money is nice but the right riders make a better movie. Betters movies bring more money for the next year.

When you're trying to figure out the 4th guy to bring on an urban trip or the 8th guy to bring to a park shoot, no one could give a shit about sponsors are. Sure, go to the sponsor and say hey man, we're filming your boy, it'd probably be a good idea throw us a bone.

You've failed to mention how the other 100 SU honorable mentions/runner ups from the the past 10 years didnt get into the crew, since you seem to think being an honorable mention = get shots in the movie.


A lot of people get into movies because they hang out with people who are in the movie, take nick miles for example, he's been around for years and skis with c-lo and parker. Same with cheddar getting into the crew, he just hit some rails with decker and tom a couple years ago and this year he had a full seg.
