Head problems

I've been meaning to make this thread for a while and i believe i made something similar to this about a year ago

Note: this is a serious thread, please post serious answers

So I've been skiing my whole life and about a couple years ago I started to get dizzy when spinning (nothing out of the ordinary) and then about a year ago I've had massive headaches for a couple mins at a time, and a very sharp pain in the back of my head, both left and right, My head is big in the back, per say, but is symmetrical. I have bad memory (short term) lately (6 months) and have a lot of trouble concentrating, but that's always been a problem for me. I've went to the doctor's thinking it was a brain tumor and, nothing. Also I have anxiety and for the first time ever I'm scared to go big skiing because I think I'm going to fuck myself up, maybe it's from hearing stories about people or what. Maybe it could be stress? I'm just looking for an answer to this and I'm really pissed about having anxiety and I'd really like to get over this

If you have any more questions about this just ask

TL;DR : I have anxiety and my head always hurts and I'd like to know how to "cure" it

I specifically said I went to a doctor and they said nothing is wrong, but the part about anxiety, how could I stop that?

And do you seriously think no one knows the solution??

Well he checked the strain behind my eyes and says he thinks it was nothing, this was also 4 months ago though.

And no, I still have fucking head pain, I wouldn't be going to the doctors again for at least a month, and I'm curious to see what other skiers have to say/ their experiences with anxiety?

I seriously think no one on ns will be able to figure out what's wrong with you better than a doctor will.

If you just feel anxious go to a psychiatrist and get some xanax or something. That should work.

Well it'd be a month at least till I go to any doctors. I'd really rather not take pills, considering side effects of them, I'd go with a more "natural" way, i guess

Then I guess all you can do is wait to see a psychiatrist (assuming they count as doctors? If not, go sooner). Nobody on ns is going to be able to tell you where your deep-seated anxiety is coming from unless you tell us your whole life story. And even then a professional is going to have a much better shot at figuring out why you feel the way you do than a bunch of dumbass pre-pubescent teenagers who still haven't figured out what they're supposed to do with their dicks.

Even though I hate OP, I actually understand everything he is going through. I've had a few doctors (GP's and optometrists) tell me that nothing is wrong. I'm not saying that I think they're wrong, but I strongly believe that nothing has really been the same since I last hit my head really hard, and I cannot justify pushing myself too hard skiing since I'm constantly weighing my options, in terms of taking it easy and having nothing go wrong, or taking that chance and risk taking another bad hit.

I suggest talking to a psychiatrist. Stress and anxiety can do some weird and crazy things to your body and behavior. Two years ago my sister randomly started stuttering so badly she could hardly even finish a sentence. It was really scary and we had no idea what was going on. After multiple doctor visits for scans that all came back clean, we decided to take her to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist was able to diagnose her with anxiety and ADD, and determined that the stuttering was a result of the combination of the two disorders. After a few sessions with him and an "as needed" precription, she was back to normal. She has been fine ever since and I don't think she takes her meds anymore either. So again, go see a psychiatrist, he might be able to solve your problems.

When you get to the point where your second guessing yourself, the smart move is to just not do it.


The better way to do it is, right when you're about to not do something, just go ahead and do it. Because it's simple, you probably can do it you just don't know it yet. I would rather fuck up going big and hurt myself doing that, rather that fucking up doing something not as big, and having the same result.

A more natural way is to take certain vitamins. Some vitamins and health supplements can help combat chemical imbalances in your body that may be a cause of anxiety. Vitamins aren't guaranteed to work and may not work as well as meds, but its a start to a more natural way

I know exactly what is wrong with you (well kind of from a medical stand point we know nothing about the brain) but i don't like you, so when you die in 3 days your parents will find out from the autopsy.

Do you have health insurance? If so demend a cat scan. I belive you cant actualy tell if anything is wrong untill you get a scan. I hit my head pretty hard a while back enough to be concused. I went to the er to be checked up and was told everything was all right untill i was told to see my primary care doctor the next day. My primary care doctor flipped the fuck out when i diddnt get any sort of scan so she rushed me to get a scan and come to find out i had a fractued skull and nose.

You made me laugh, haha. And last_tango, I do have health insurance and asked my doctor if he thinks I should get a MRI and I think he said he didn't really want to put me at a risk for radiation and wanted to wait and see what happened

Yes lol, every prescription drug has a side effects dumbass: depression, thoughts of suicide, hallucinations, light headed, seizers, chest pain, palpitations, bad memory, insomnia, swelling, and so many more. I know these because I wrote them down when I talked to my doctor about anxiety medications.

If you were really in med school, you'd know xanax is not a long term solution and has plenty of side effects including worsening anxiety, depression, addiction, seizures during withdrawal etc. Xanax will waste your life away if you aren't careful

Not sure if you already tried this but, go get your eyes tested. Eye strain can cause some of the issues you described. A neurologist will just look at the eyes as a function not if they are seeing things clearly. I was having all sorts of light sensitivity and head problems. Went and got the old peepers checked and my RX was way off. Got me some new specks and things got way better. Not saying this is the issue but I did stay at a Holiday inn express last night.

^ this Also it wight be migraine headaches I used to have them and It turns out I just wasn't getting enough water and nutrients so make sure you are eating properly and getting hydrated right

I get migraines to the point where I'm passing out and puking. So here's what you do: Go to a neurologist. Don't go to a regular MD. I've spent ridiculous amounts of money and time at my regular MD and no avail. If it has to do with your brain or head..go. Don't risk it, and don't sit in pain or be uncomfortable for your whole life! That's the worst! I'm now prescribed this medication that helps me out immensely.

well primary care physicians don't specialize with the head, again we really know nothing about our brain, or even what causes a headache. For most part, doctors will usually see someone 2-3 times with an occurring problem before they refer you to a specialist, and most insurance companies wont cover until then. If you ever been to a neurologist office there are people there with real brain injures, cerebral palsy and people even have seizure in the office while waiting. if everyone went to neuro for every headache they have, they wouldn't be able to get anything done.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, just saying if he thinks he has a bigger issue with his head. I've wound up in the ER a few times because of my migraines, and so I finally decided maybe it was time to go the the neurologist. I didn't go until then.. :/

Didn't read the full thread so you're aware.

Dizziness could just be low blood pressure, it's common in young people especially if you've done any high cardio sports (running, rowing ect.) It can be amplified from other things such as dehydration or when you're sick.

Find a new doctor. Now. MRIs produce 0 radiation. Basically just a big magnet. If he actually said he didn't want to do an MRI because of radiation, check his degree. He might be a chiropractor.
