We noted minutes ago that federal authorities say the situation has been resolved. Here is a summary of how the situation unfolded this afternoon, according to what an intelligence source told CNN's Deborah Feyerick:

-- Police stopped a black vehicle near the White House.

-- Words were exchanged, the woman driver put the car in motion, and a chase began.

-- The chase ended near Capitol Hill.

-- The driver apparently was hit by gunfire.

-- The vehicle also contained a child.

The child appeared to be uninjured, according to the source and witnesses.

This story just keeps getting more and more bizarre. Just now in the press conference, a reporter asked them to confirm that this African American woman suspect immigrated from Somali. She was driving an Infiniti G37 with a baby in the back. Really bad postpartum depression or act of terrorism. I have a feeling that the details are going to get even weirder.

How I see it, a para-military force was deployed to take out an unarmed mother, who was probably scared out of her mind. Barricades did stop the car, so why kill her?

Shoot first and ask questions later or don't ask questions at all.


It was nothing but over zealous police officers abusing their powers. Shooting the TIRES OUT would have been good enough. But no, instead they go right ahead and murder apparently a mentally ill mother right in front of her child.

Yes, shooting out the tires on a fast moving car, traveling through traffic with pedestrians everywhere was clearly the easiest choice.

If there's one place where no chances will be taken, it's Washington DC.

And also remember, just because the vehicle is stopped doesn't mean the threat is.

lol wtf did you expect the police to do? let the bitch ram the fence in front of the white house, hit a secret service agent with her car, drive around like a maniac and potentially take out innocent bystanders? sad she died but with fuckin crazy people sometimes its not possible to use non-lethal force to stop them before someone else gets iced

I see where you're coming from, but hindsight is 20/20. Its so easy to make judgements after we have all of the info displayed nicely in front of us, but when you're in the real world and a threat like this arises, you need to make decisions quickly, and a half baked course of action wont cut it anywhere, especially the capitol.

How did they know the car wasnt packed with explosives, or that the infant was a hostage and she planned on using it as one, or a million other possibilities.

This woman willingly put the lives of pedestrians and officers at risk, and in a place as essential as the capitol I think they made the right decision. Id rather see this than the alternate outcome

this may have been an option pre 9-11 but the US no longer fucks around with people who pose as a threat to the public, especially on the capitol. Also, its nearly fucking impossible to shoot the tires of a moving car, not to mention the risk you put on bystanders if you miss.

you seem tripped up on the fact that she was a depressed, postpartum mother. would your opinion have changed if this was a man driving the car?
